Reduced Neutrophil‐to‐Eosinophil Ratio in Chronic Dacryocystitis: A Hematological Clue to Allergic Pathogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Aim To examine complete blood count parameters for differences in chronic dacryocystitis compared to controls, exploring their potential link to a possible allergic‐inflammatory contribution in lacrimal surgery. Methods This retrospective study included 190 adults aged 18–83 years who underwent external dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) for primary acquired ...

The Impact of NO2 on Epithelial Barrier Integrity of a Primary Cell‐Based Air–Liquid Interface Model of the Nasal Respiratory Epithelium

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, Volume 45, Issue 3, Page 482-491, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is a pervasive gaseous air pollutant with well‐documented hazardous effects on health, necessitating precise toxicological characterization. While prior research has primarily focused on lower airway structures, the upper airways, serving as the first line of defense against airborne substances, remain understudied. This

Quality‐of‐Life Outcomes Following Endoscopic Resection of Sinonasal Inverted Papilloma

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, Volume 135, Issue 2, Page 579-585, February 2025.
In this multi‐institutional longitudinal study of 373 inverted papilloma patients, surgical resection significantly improved quality of life (QOL) within 1 month of surgery, which improved in a durable manner at 3 months postoperatively and stabilized across 12 months.

Comparison of Anesthetic and Surgical Outcomes Between General Anesthesia and Dexmedetomidine‐Based Sedoanalgesia in Dacryocystorhinostomy Surgery With Bispectral Index Monitoring

open access: yesAnesthesiology Research and Practice, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Background This study aimed to compare general anesthesia (GA) and sedoanalgesia (SA) with dexmedetomidine in terms of anesthetic and surgical outcomes in dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) under bispectral index (BIS) monitoring. Methods In this prospective randomized controlled study, 44 adult patients (≥ 18 y) were divided into two groups.

Retrospective study in 1020 cases on the rate of surgical site infections after lacrimal surgery without prophylactic systemic antibiotics

open access: yesActa Ophthalmologica, Volume 102, Issue 8, Page 963-967, December 2024.
Abstract Background/Aims Data regarding the effectiveness of prophylactic systemic antibiotics (PSA) in lacrimal surgery is scarce. Therefore, we determined the postoperative surgical site infection (SSI) rate in lacrimal surgery without PSA. Methods We retrospectively analysed files of patients who underwent external (extDCR) or endoscopic endonasal ...
