Microfacies characteristics of the Lower Jurassic lithiotid limestone from northern Adriatic Carbonate Platform (central Slovenia)

open access: yesGeologija, 2015
The lithiotid limestone is characteristic for many Late Sinemurian – Pliensbachian tropical and subtropical carbonate platforms of the Neotethys and the Piemont-Liguria Oceans. On the northern edge of the ancient Adriatic Carbonate Platform (present NW

Toward Solving the Mystery of Elevated Tectonic Degassing in South Eastern Europe: Insights From Gas Discharges Along the Vardar Suture (North Macedonia)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 26, Issue 7, July 2025.
Abstract Tectonic carbon degassing is an important contributor to the global carbon cycle. South Eastern Europe is an active extensional tectonic region. This is the result of intense geodynamic events related to the closure of the Tethys Ocean, whose remnants include an ophiolite orogenic belt and the Vardar megasuture.

Nature, origin and significance of a clayey cave deposit: Relationship between karst and Oligocene/Miocene tephra (NW Dinarides)

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 11, Issue 3, Page 954-974, June 2025.
A limestone cave in the NW Dinarides exhibits an anomalous presence of montmorillonite clay, not commonly found in surrounding caves, posing questions about its origin and age. Analysis reveals a composition similar to weathered tephra from the Smrekovec Volcanic Complex, suggesting transport by north‐east winds.

CONODONT DATING OF THE LOWER TRIASSIC SEDIMENTARY ROCKS IN THE EXTERNAL DINARIDES (CROATIA AND BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA)

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2011
Two Lower Triassic sedimentary successions have been dated by means of conodonts in the External Dinarides: Plavno section near Knin, Croatia and Bosansko Grahovo section in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The bases for understanding of the NW Dinarides and Istria Peninsula tectonics

open access: yesGeologija, 2010
Thrust structure of the northeastern part of the External Dinarides is depended upon paleogeography of the Adriatic–Dinaric Mesozoic Carbonate Platform, which was in the southeast (in the recent position) composed of Dinaric and Adriatic segment with ...

EVOLUZIONE DEL SETTORE SETTENTRIONALE DELLA PIATTAFORMA CARBONATICA ADRIATICA

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2020
The eastern Southern Alps are characterized by the superimposition of alpine and dinaric tectonic clcmcnts; the bedrock Of the Friulan plane is composed by structural elements that represent the prosecution of the External Dinarides.

THE LOWER TRIASSIC SHALLOW MARINE SUCCESSION IN GORSKI KOTAR REGION (EXTERNAL DINARIDES, CROATIA): LITHOFACIES AND CONODONT DATING

open access: yesRivista Italiana di Paleontologia e Stratigrafia, 2006
The paper aims to present Lower Triassic lithofacies definition and first conodont fauna of Gorski Kotar region, Croatia. The depositional environment is envisaged as shallow marine realm of a passive continental margin.

Early Jurassic foraminiferal assemblages in platform carbonates of Mt. Krim, central Slovenia

open access: yesGeologija, 2017
During the Early Jurassic, the subtropical carbonate platforms of the peri-Tethys Ocean experienced signifiant changes in their architectures, as well as in their biota compositions.
