Gamma-Ray Dose Distributions in Externally Irradiated Cylinders
Radiation Research, 1970HUBBARD, LINCOLN B., Gamma-Ray Dose Distributions in Externally Irradiated Cylinders. Radiat. Res. 44, 4-12 (1970). An approximate model is presented for the irradiation of uniform cylinders by external, broad-beam gamma rays. In this model the point doses for unilateral and bilateral irradiations are simple expressions of elementary functions.

Interinstitutional experience in verification of external photon dose calculations
International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1991Under the auspices of NCI contracts, four institutions have collaborated to assess the accuracy of the pixel-based dose calculation methods they employ for external photon treatment planning. The approach relied on comparing calculations using each group's algorithm with measurements in phantoms of increasing complexity.

Three-dimensional dose distributions for external beam radiotherapy
International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1978Abstract A computer program has been developed to calculate three-dimensional dose distributions for external beam radiotherapy. The distribution is composed of a series of parallel planes of variable separation for either a single field or for a combination of regular and/or irregular fields.

Dose–volume effects for normal tissues in external radiotherapy: Pelvis
Radiotherapy and Oncology, 2009A great deal of quantitative information regarding the dose-volume relationships of pelvic organs at risk has been collected and analysed over the last 10 years. The need to improve our knowledge in the modelling of late and acute toxicity has become increasingly important, due to the rapidly increasing use of inverse-planned intensity-modulated ...

Effects of Low Doses and Low Dose Rates of External Ionizing Radiation
Radiation Research, 1995This letter refers to a recent study reported in Radiation Research on the above subject by Cardis et al. (1). In view of the uncertainties and wide differences of opinions on the possible health effects of low-level exposures, the analysis of the pooled data from three countries is a very timely and commendable effort. However, we feel that there is a

Thyroid Nodules After High-Dose External Radiotherapy
JAMA, 1982From 1974 to 1980, we studied six patients, five treated for Hodgkin's disease and one for a hemangioma, in whom thyroid nodules developed after high-dose (2,500 to 4,000 rad) thyroid radiation. Fine-needle aspiration cytology of the thyroid in five cases showed moderate to severe cellular atypia in four (three of whom had elevated serum thyrotropin ...

Derivation of isoeffect dose rate for low-dose-rate brachytherapy and external beam irradiation
International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1999The combination of external beam irradiation and brachytherapy has been used effectively in the management of many malignancies. Brachytherapy dose is typically prescribed to an isodose rate line, from which the implant duration is derived. In this study, the linear-quadratic model is used to derive the brachytherapy dose rate at which biological ...

Age-Dependent Effective Doses for External Photons
Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 1994Monte Carlo calculations of the effective dose, E, for external photons have been performed using anthropomorphic phantoms of six age groups: 0, 1, 5, 10 and 15 years, and adult. Twelve incident energies from 17 keV to 8.5 MeV were selected for each of five irradiation geometries: AP, PA, RLAT, ROT and ISO.
