Calculation of dose conversion factors for doses in the fingernails to organ doses at external gamma irradiation in air [PDF]

open access: yesRadiation Measurements, 2015
Absorbed doses to fingernails and organs were calculated for a set of homogenous external gamma-ray irradiation geometries in air. The doses were obtained by stochastic modeling of the ionizing particle transport (Monte Carlo method) for a mathematical human phantom with arms and hands placed loosely along the sides of the body.

Analysis of the external doses received by workers involved in the mitigation of the Goiania radiological accident

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences, 2018
In 1987, after identification that a stolen head of a Cs-137 radiotherapy irradiator was violated, it starts, in Goiania, the screening of the involved persons, the decontamination and the collection of the radioactive waste.

External effective dose from natural radiation for the Umbria region (Italy)

open access: yesJournal of Maps, 2022
This study presents the map of the external effective annual dose rate (1:200,000 scale) due to terrestrial and cosmic radiation. The terrestrial dose is assessed via gamma ray spectroscopy combining radiometric data from airborne surveys and laboratory ...

Dose received by external genital organs during preoperative radiotherapy for rectal cancer patients

open access: yesJournal of Radiation and Cancer Research, 2020
Introduction: Preoperative radiotherapy, followed by surgery, is a commonly used approach for locally advanced rectal and colorectal cancer. The external genitalia receive a certain dose of radiation, which may be attributed to long-term sexual ...

Response of Photon Dosimeters and Survey Instruments to New Operational Quantities Proposed by ICRU RC26

open access: yes, 2018
Operational quantities in radiation protection are defined as conservative estimates of the protection quantities, which are generally not accessible to measurement.

Randomized, open-label, phase 1/2a study to determine the maximum tolerated dose of intraventricular sustained release nimodipine for subarachnoid hemorrhage (NEWTON [Nimodipine Microparticles to Enhance Recovery While Reducing Toxicity After Subarachnoid Hemorrhage]) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE—: We conducted a randomized, open-label, phase 1/2a, dose-escalation study of intraventricular sustained-release nimodipine (EG-1962) to determine safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and clinical effects in aneurysmal ...

Natural radionuclide and 137Cs activity concentration in soils of the Brazilian State of Sergipe and their correlation with environmental characteristics

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Radiation Sciences
Radionuclides occur naturally in the environment, exposing living organisms to ionizing radiation. In addition, human activities have introduced artificial radionuclides such as 137Cs, among others, into the environment.

The Risk of Cancer from CT Scans and Other Sources of Low-Dose Radiation: A Critical Appraisal of Methodologic Quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Introduction: Concern exists that radiation exposure from computerized tomography (CT) will cause thousands of malignancies. Other experts share the same perspective regarding the risk from additional sources of low-dose ionizing radiation ...
