Preventing transformer mis-operations for external faults

2014 67th Annual Conference for Protective Relay Engineers, 2014
These new test methods are a new tool that can be used to verify the stability of differential relays for external faults. By simulating real time events, one can discovered errors that were not possible using single phase test methods. As a result, it is encouraged that new microprocessor relays be tested as close to real system events as possible.

Simulation-based approach for avoiding external faults

2013 16th International Conference on Advanced Robotics (ICAR), 2013
When a robot interacts with its environment to perform tasks, it often faces unexpected situations which render its actions unsuccessful despite perfect functioning of its components. These situations occur as deviations of properties of the objects (manipulated by the robot) from their acceptable values.

Transformer External Fault Detection Under Geomagnetically Induced Currents

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery
During geomagnetically induced currents (GICs), transformer differential relays are likely to remain blocked for internal faults. This issue is pinpointed by extensive studies in literature, and several solutions have been proposed to unblock the relays ...

A Novel Method to Distinguish Internal and External Faults During Power Swing

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2021
The immunity to external faults is very important for any power swing unblocking scheme to improve its reliability. However, most of the available schemes to differentiate faults from power swing have poor reliability as they are not immune to external ...

Detection of Interturn Short-Circuit Faults in DFIGs Based on External Leakage Flux Sensing and the VMD-RCMDE Analytical Method

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2022
Fault detection based on external leakage flux can address various faults, such as short-circuit faults in stators and rotors. External leakage flux sensing technology, as a noninvasive method, has been attracting increasing attention and research ...

Fault-tolerant external clock synchronization

Proceedings of 15th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems, 2002
We address the problem of how to integrate fault-tolerant internal and external clock synchronization. We propose a new algorithm which provides both external and internal clock synchronization for as long as no more than F reference time servers out of a total of 2F+1 are faulty.

Modeling of externally-induced/common-cause faults in fault-tolerant systems

AIAA/IEEE Digital Avionics Systems Conference. 13th DASC, 2002
Modeling fault behaviors such as fault occurrences and active/benign durations is an essential step to the design and evaluation of fault-tolerant controller computers. We use a beta-binomial distribution to model fault occurrences both in the presence and in the absence of environmentally-induced (thus common-cause) faults.

Fault-Tolerant Tracking Control of Quadrotor Aircrafts with Actuator Faults and External Disturbances

2020 39th Chinese Control Conference (CCC), 2020
In this paper, a novel fault-tolerant flight controller is designed so that the quadrotor aircraft can track a desired trajectory in the presence of actuator faults and external disturbances. For the position subsystem, a robust control law based on integral-type sliding mode control (ITSMC) is designed to achieve the tracking objective.
