The modularity and ease of application of modern external fixation has expanded its potential use in the management of fractures and other musculoskeletal conditions. In fracture care, it can be used for provisional and definitive fixation. Short-term provisional applications include "damage control" and periarticular fracture fixation.

The conclusion from the above clinical and experimental presentation is that stabilization by using external fixation in problematic cases is the method of choice because the risk of infection is better than by using the standard methods of plating and nailing.

Nursing standard (Royal College of Nursing (Great Britain) : 1987), 2009
As a newly qualified staff nurse working on a trauma ward, I see patients with a variety of fractures. It is often difficult to distinguish between the different types of fractures and the methods of fixation.

Suitability of Wrist External Fixator for Treatment of Mandibular Fracture.
The Journal of craniofacial surgery (Print), 2018The mandibular fracture is one of the most commonly fractures of the facial bones. In high-energy traumas, a comminuted mandible fracture may occur. The closed reduction with external fixator is an interesting alternative for these types of fractures ...

External fixation of the mandible is required in complex fractures or to stabilize the mandibular segments during reconstruction. The method supplements interosseous wiring and intermaxillary fixation techniques.

Biocompression External Fixation Sliding External Osteosynthesis
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1986Biocompression is a term applied to the stresses that have their origin in the elastic deformation of a diaphyseal bone, under the loads of functional activities. Its significance is the osteogenic response that biocompression stress induces in the cells of the healthy bone.

External Fixation and Arthrodesis
Orthopedics, 1984ABSTRACT: Arthrodesis of joint is widely employed in case of infected nonunion especially after failed total knee replacement. Instead of the conventional methods of immobilization including plaster cast or internal fixation we think that the use of the external fixation is highly satisfactory, providing an excellent method of immobilization and ...

External Fixation Shoulder Arthrodesis
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1986Shoulder arthrodesis, while providing a useful and predictable solution to many problems associated with glenohumeral degeneration, has been less than desirable for many patients due to the frequent need for postoperative spica cast or airplane splint immobilization.

Stiffness Analysis of the Sarafix External Fixator based on Stainless Steel and Composite Material
TEM Journal, 2015This paper describes a structural analysis of the CAD model three versions fixators Sarafix which is to explore the possibility of introducing composite materials in the construction of the connecting rod fixators comparing values of displacement and ...
