Complications of External Fixation
2011External fixation has assumed an important role in damage control orthopedics. Common indications include open fractures, bridging juxta-articular fractures or dislocations, and pelvic external fixation. Complications may ensue from external fixation as with other surgical treatment.

Combined External Fixation and Internal Fixation
2014Fractures with severe comminution of the joint surface and with little metaphyseal support to the volar rim fragments may benefit from a volar buttress plate in addition to ligamentotaxis served by an external fixator. The most severe, comminuted fractures however should be subject to augmented external fixation.
