A Robust Design Optimization Methodology for External Gear Pumps

ASME 2010 10th Biennial Conference on Engineering Systems Design and Analysis, Volume 4, 2010
This work addresses the topic of external gear pumps for automotive applications, which operate at high speed and low pressure. In previous works of the authors, a hybrid lumped-parameter/finite-element model has been developed, in order to foresee the pump dynamic behaviour in terms of gear and casing acceleration.

CFD Model of an External Gear Pump

2017
The paper presents a CFD model of an external gear pump. To investigate the fluid flow phenomena that occur in external gear pumps, one of the commercial CFD software packages was selected. The immersed solid method was used to simulate the flows induced by the rotation of gears.

A Gear Load Distribution Model for a Planetary Gear Set With a Flexible Ring Gear Having External Splines

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2019
In order to accurately predict ring gear deformations and to investigate the effects of ring gear flexibility on quasi-static behaviors of planetary gear sets, a complete load distribution model of planetary gear sets having flexible ring gears will be formulated here based on the baseline model proposed by the same authors (Hu, Y., Talbot, D., and ...

Interference in External and Internal Gears

2023

Modelling of External Gears

2004
The paper deals with the procedure of 3D external gear models development by means of AutoCAD Mechanical 2004 DX software package. In accordance with the chosen software modelling possibilities, 3D models of helical gear and straight bevel gear are performed as the combination of a surface teeth model and solid model of gear body.

Optimum carburization in external spur gears

Wear, 1984
Abstract In order to determine the surface durability of case-hardened gears and the optimum design conditions required to prevent spalling fatigue, an analytical model was developed which correlates the subsurface shear stress produced by the transmitted load with the material strength of the gear.

Wear in external gear pumps: A simplified model

Wear, 1994
Abstract Wear in external gear pumps, as used in hydraulic systems, is not uniformly distributed over the sliding surfaces. It is confirmed that wear occurs at regions of close clearance. Flow between these surfaces is complex, and existing fundamental wear models are not satisfactory.

Analytical Model of Wear-Out Failures in Spur Gears of External Gearing

2019
The paper presents the failures of spur gears by the wear resistance criterion of abraded surfaces as one of the main reduction reasons of technical and economic indicators of mechanical equipment. High wear rates of gears lead to an increase in the share of unplanned downtime of metallurgical machines and an increase in labor intensity of repair ...

The Theoretical Flow Ripple of an External Gear Pump

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 2003
In this paper, the theoretical flow ripple of an external gear pump is studied for pumps of similar size using different numbers of teeth on the driving and driven gears. In this work, the flow ripple equation is derived based upon the flow of incompressible fluid across the changing boundaries of a control volume.

Reduction Gear Damages Related to External Influences

Marine Technology and SNAME News, 1975
Increases in the tonnage of tankers, LNG carriers, and container vessels accompanied by increases in the powers of propulsion plants have led to incompatibility between the deflections of the hull and the lineshafting stiffness. This incompatibility is at the origin of the harmful influences exerted on main gears by external effects, including ...
