Molecular mechanisms of external genitalia development [PDF]

open access: yesDifferentiation, 2012
External genitalia development occurs through a combination of hormone independent, hormone dependent, and endocrine pathways. Perturbation of these pathways can lead to abnormal external genitalia development. We review human and animal mechanisms of normal and abnormal external genitalia development, and we evaluate abnormal mechanisms that lead to ...

Nanofillers Reinforcing Biopolymer Composites for Sustainable Food Packaging Applications: A State‐of‐the‐Art Review

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biopolymers are sustainable, biodegradable alternatives to petroleum‐based plastics for food packaging. Its adoption is often limited by poor mechanical strength, barrier properties, and improved thermal stability through the incorporation of nanofillers.

Genetic Architecture and Functional Characterization of Genes Underlying the Rapid Diversification of Male External Genitalia Between Drosophila simulans and Drosophila mauritiana

open access: yesGenetics, 2015
Male sexual characters are often among the first traits to diverge between closely related species and identifying the genetic basis of such changes can contribute to our understanding of their evolutionary history.

Delivery of Islatravir via High Drug‐Load, Long‐acting Microarray Patches for the Prevention or Treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 14, Issue 7, March 14, 2025.
Islatravir‐loaded dissolving microarray patches (MAPs) provide a minimally invasive, long‐acting solution for HIV‐1 prevention and treatment. In rats, sustained islatravir delivery lasts up to three months, while in minipigs, efficacious plasma levels are detected for six days.

Confirmation that Helopeltis species attacking cacao in Yogyakarta is Helopeltis bradyi Waterhouse, not Helopeltis antonii Signoret (Heteroptera: Miridae)

open access: yesJurnal Entomologi Indonesia, 2016
Helopeltis antonii Signort (Heteroptera: Miridae) has long been reported to attack cacao and other host plants in Java. A recently published literature review refuted this idea and offered morphological evidence suggesting that this attacker is actually ...

A new genus for the Neotropical species of Aesalus Fabricius, with descriptions of eight new species (Coleoptera: Lucanidae: Aesalinae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The Neotropical members of the genus Aesalus Fabricius (Coleoptera: Lucanidae: Aesalinae) are transferred to a new genus, Trogellus, due to their morphological dissimilarity and molecular divergence from the Old World species of Aesalus, and the new ...

Increasing the Stability of Deep Blue Phosphor‐Sensitized OLEDs Using the Polariton‐Enhanced Purcell Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The polariton‐enhanced Purcell (PEP) effect is demonstrated to enhance the stability of the deep blue phosphor‐sensitized fluorescent (PSF) OLEDs by 3.1 X compared to PSF diodes lacking this effect. In addition, PSF‐OLEDs exhibit reduced EQE roll‐off and deep blue color emission.

Description of the External Genitalia and Uterus of a 24-month-old Freemartin Hanwoo

open access: yesJournal of Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology, 2018
We observed the external genitalia and uterus of a 24-month-old freemartin Hanwoo. The vulva was smaller than observed in a normal female Hanwoo, while the clitoris was larger in the freemartin.

A relative shift in cloacal location repositions external genitalia in amniote evolution

open access: yesNature, 2014
The move of vertebrates to a terrestrial lifestyle required major adaptations in their locomotory apparatus and reproductive organs. While the fin-to-limb transition has received considerable attention, little is known about the developmental and ...

Fibrous Pressure Sensor with Unique Resistance Increase under Partial Compression: Coaxial Wet‐Spun TiO2/Graphene/Thermoplastic Polyurethane Multi‐Wall Multifunctional Fiber

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
TGTMW fibers are designed to show a sharp resistance increase under pressure, as the multi‐wall structure in the transition region between compressed and uncompressed areas bends and forms microcracks. This design breaks the physical sensitivity limit of conventional fiber‐shaped pressure sensors, which usually show resistance reduction under pressure ...
