UV Extinction Towards a Quiescent Molecular Cloud in the SMC

open access: yes, 2012
Context: The mean UV extinction law for the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is usually taken as a template for low-metallicity galaxies. However, its current derivation is based on only five stars, thus placing doubts on its universality. An increase in the

Temperature- and Phase-Independent Lateral Force Sensor based on a Core-Offset Multi-Mode Fiber Interferometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A novel lateral force sensor based on a core-offset multi-mode fiber (MMF) interferometer is reported. High extinction ratio can be obtained by misaligning a fused cross section between the single-mode fiber (SMF) and MMF.

Intramolecular Down‐ and Up‐Conversion in Dimeric Tetracene Complexes Centered via Platinum(II) and Palladium(II)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐tetracene dimeric complexes are synthesized through the pyridyl coordination to either Pt(II) or Pd(II). Photophysical properties are systematically compared as a function of the metal using steady‐state and time‐resolved spectroscopy. The Pt(II) dimer exhibits efficient intramolecular singlet fission and subsequent intramolecular up‐conversion ...

Adaptation, Plasticity, and Extinction in a Changing Environment: Towards a Predictive Theory

open access: yesPLoS Biology, 2010
The authors analyze developmental, genetic, and demographic mechanisms by which populations tolerate changing environments and discuss empirical methods for determining the critical rate of sustained environmental change that causes population extinction.

The mid-infrared extinction law in the darkest cores of the Pipe Nebula

open access: yes, 2012
Context. The properties of dust grains, in particular their size distribution, are expected to differ from the interstellar medium to the high-density regions within molecular clouds. Aims.

Interstellar Extinction Law toward the Galactic Center II: V, J, H, and Ks Bands [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We have determined the ratios of total to selective extinction directly from observations in the optical V band and near-infrared J band toward the Galactic center.

From Low Symmetry to High Dissymmetry: Chiral Plasmonic Films of Binary and Nanobipyramid Assemblies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work develops highly dissymmetric chiral plasmonic thin films by helically assembling gold nano bipyramids within a liquid‐crystal template. Engineering of the chiroptical response is achieved by varying particle size and geometry, as well as preparing binary assemblies.

Global stability of the boundary solution of a nonautonomous predator-prey system with Beddington-DeAngelis functional response

open access: yesJournal of Biological Dynamics, 2020
In this paper, we consider a nonautonomous predator-prey system with Beddington-DeAngelis functional response and explore the global stability of boundary solution.

On Galactic density modeling in the presence of dust extinction

open access: yes, 2016
Inferences about the spatial density or phase-space structure of stellar populations in the Milky Way require a precise determination of the effective survey volume.

Understanding and Addressing the Performance Asymmetry Issue in Semitransparent Laminated Organic Photovoltaic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work addresses the challenge of current–voltage asymmetry in scalable laminated semitransparent organic photovoltaics (OPVs) for indoor applications. Vertical stratification of materials is shown to create an energy barrier, leading to performance differences under different illumination directions.
