Broadband Terahertz Polarizing Beam Splitter Based on a Graphene-Based Defective One-Dimensional Photonic Crystal

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
Seeking operative terahertz (THz) devices has always stimulated considerable attention. Of particular interest is the THz beam splitter. Here, a tunable THz polarizing beam splitter (PBS) is proposed based on a graphene-embedded quarter-wave stack with a

Ionic Precursors Transformed Into Vinyl Acetate Synthesis Catalyst via Reaction‐Driven Restructuring

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that a simple physical mixture of Pd and Au ionic precursors, KOAc promoter, and SiO2 support can transform into a highly active vinyl acetate synthesis catalyst through reaction‐driven restructuring. The results highlight reaction‐induced restructuring as an innovative and sustainable catalyst design strategy.

Gradient‐Conductivity Architecture Enables Synchronous Enhancement of Sensitivity and Detection Range in Multifunctional All‐Paper Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A gradient‐engineered all‐paper sensor is fabricated by integrating MXene and in situ grown AgNPs within hierarchical cellulose networks. The device breaks the sensitivity–detection range trade‐off through cascaded conductive pathways, enabling ultrahigh pressure sensitivity, humidity–pressure decoupled dual‐mode sensing, and outstanding EMI shielding,

The extinction angles on the deformed sanidine single crystals.

open access: yesMineralogical Journal, 1990
Experimentally deformed sanidine single crystals have been investigated by an optical microscope in order to establish relations between their deformations and change of extinction angle. It is found that the change of extinction angle in a deformed single crystal is large in the strongly deformed part.

Anisotropic Phonon Dynamics and Directional Transport in Actinide Van der Waals Semiconductor Uranium Triselenide

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
USe3 is introduced as an actinide van der Waals semiconductor that mirrors the quasi‐one‐dimensional physics of transition‐metal trichalcogenides. Polarization‐resolved Raman spectroscopy on exfoliated flakes maps strong in‐plane phonon anisotropy and strain‐tunable mode shifts.

Targets for maintenance of dead wood for biodiversity conservation based on extinction thresholds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Forestry decreases the amount of dead wood, thereby threatening the persistence of many saproxylic (wood-living) organisms. In this article, we discuss how targets for efforts to maintain and restore dead wood in managed forest landscapes should be ...

Design of coupled magic angle graphene/single-layer graphene surface-incident 2D photonic modulators

open access: yesNext Materials
Magic angle graphene is famous for its topological insulator and unconventional superconductivity behavior at cryogenic temperatures. However, few studies have been conducted on its practical applications in other areas, especially in photonics. Here, we

The edge segmentation of grains in thin-section petrographic images utilising extinction consistency perception network

open access: yesComplex & Intelligent Systems, 2023
The first step in petrographic image analysis is to segment the mineral grains in the thin section petrographic image, allowing the petrographer to identify the rock based on the grain size and composition.

Improved Identification Method and Fault Current Limiting Strategy for Commutation Failure in LCC-HVDC

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2022
Line-commutated converter based high-voltage direct-current (LCC-HVDC) transmission systems are prone to subsequent commutation failure (SCF), which consequently leads to the forced blocking of HVDC links, affecting the operation of the power system.

Protein‐Nanoarchitectures for Low‐Field Intracellular Electro‐Immunomodulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
DHQ‐SDH‐mediated binding of AuNPs drives the formation of interconnected, chain‐like nanoarchitectures with enhanced electrical conductivity. These conductive assemblies undergo macrophage uptake and enable low‐field electrical stimulation, promoting M1‐to‐M2 phenotypic switching with decreased iNOS and increased CD206 expression. Such protein‐mediated
