Estimates of the extinction probability of the Galton-Watson process

open access: yes, 1995
Узагальнено результат Квайна про збіжність до одиниці ймовірності виродження суперкритичного процесу Гальтона-Ватсона, якщо середнє число нащадків наближається до одиниці при відсутності обмежень на факторіальні моменти.We generalize Quine's result on ...

Transmission dynamics of cryptosporidiosis in humans and cattle: A CTMC stochastic model integrating the role of human immune status

open access: yesFranklin Open
Cryptosporidiosis is a zoonotic disease that affects humans and animals globally, posing a significant public health and veterinary concern. It is mainly transmitted through the faecal-oral route.

Interpreting a Legacy Fossil Assemblage Excavated From Waribruk (New Guinea II Cave), GunaiKurnai Aboriginal Country, Snowy River National Park, Southeastern Australia

open access: yesArchaeology in Oceania, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this paper we report on faunal remains recovered from a legacy archaeological excavation undertaken in the rockshelter entrance of Waribruk (New Guinea II Cave), a GunaiKurnai site located on the west bank of the Snowy River, East Gippsland, southeastern Australia.

Mathematical modeling of the spread of the coronavirus under strict social restrictions

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView., 2021
We formulate a simple susceptible‐infectious‐recovery (SIR) model to describe the spread of the coronavirus under strict social restrictions. The transmission rate in this model is exponentially decreasing with time. We find a formula for basic reproduction function and estimate the maximum number of daily infected individuals.

On the probability of extinction of a Galton-Watson process

open access: yes
A new lower bound for the probability of extinction of a Galton-Watson process is derived. The result extends the classical extinction probability theorem of J.F.

The probability of containment for multitype branching process models for emerging epidemics

open access: yes, 2011
This paper is concerned with the definition and calculation of containment probabilities for emerging disease epidemics. A general multitype branching process is used to model an emerging infectious disease in a population of households. It is shown that

Density Estimates of Endangered Endemic Rodents Suggest Broader Impacts of Invasive Burmese Pythons Following a Category 4 Hurricane in the Florida Keys

open access: yesBiological Diversity, EarlyView.
Density estimates of two endangered rodent subspecies, endemic to Key Largo, Florida, USA. These findings illustrate the contrasting dynamics of two native species associated with the prevalence of invasive Burmese pythons and global change. The woodrats' decline emphasizes its potential risk of extinction as global change continues to impact island ...

On the probability of extinction in a periodic environment

open access: yes, 2014
For a certain class of multi-type branching processes in a continuous-time periodic environment, we show that the extinction probability is equal to (resp. less than) 1 if the basic reproduction number is less than (resp. bigger than) 1.

A roadmap to key traits of invasive Drosophilidae

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biological invasions have intensified in recent decades, mostly driven by international trade and travel, raising significant concerns, particularly regarding insect pests. Once non‐native species establish, they can disrupt natural ecosystem stability, undermine agroecosystem sustainability and cause substantial economic losses.
