Hemodynamics and Extracorporeal Circulation
2019Peripheral veno-arterial membrane oxygenation (PVA-ECMO) is increasingly used as first-line therapy during refractory cardiogenic shock. It is responsible for striking changes in patient’s hemodynamics. They are mostly related to the retrograde direction of the ECMO blood flow in the aorta, responsible for a massive increase in cardiac afterload and a ...

Hepatectomy under extracorporeal circulation
Surgery, 1995Resection of hepatic tumors located near the confluence of the hepatic vein or invading the inferior vena cava has become technically feasible and relatively safe by using venovenous bypass. However, some technical problems remain to be solved. We performed three cases of hepatic resection under extracorporeal circulation combined with hypothermic ...

Extracorporeal circulation in 2050: a speculation
Perfusion, 2003In 2050, a 60-year-old (middle-aged) man has a large myocardial infarction. As he collapses, he vomits and aspirates gastric contents. He has two episodes of ventricular fibrillation, but is successfully defibrillated by his wife.
