Mobile Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

Critical Care Nursing Clinics of North America, 1995
Mobile extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is being offered by select ECMO centers in the United States. Mobile ECMO can be performed for the critically ill patient who is unable to be transported by conventional ambulance transport. This article discusses the logistics and safety considerations associated with mobile ECMO.

Veno-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Cardiogenic Shock: An Introduction for the Busy Clinician.

Circulation, 2019
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation has evolved, from a therapy that was selectively applied in the pediatric population in tertiary centers, to more widespread use in diverse forms of cardiopulmonary failure in all ages.

Neonatal Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

Pediatrics, 1988
The number of centers providing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy to newborns with intractable respiratory failure has grown dramatically. The ECMO registry now includes 37 institutions in the United States,1 and there may be additional centers offering ECMO but not participating in the registry.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

1996
The development of silicon polymer membranes [1–4] for prolonged extracorporeal circulation stimulated the idea of using extracorporeal support systems in the treatment of the syndrome of acute respiratory distress in adults (ARDS). This disease is characterized primarily by severe impairment in pulmonary gas exchange, reduced compliance and ...

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

2019
This chapter examines the indications, applications, and complications of modern extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). The safety profile of ECMO has improved through advancements in devices, components, and routine management, resulting in improved outcomes and an expanded range of applications.

Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation

2018
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO) is an advanced cardiopulmonary bypass machine used in cardiac surgeryand can be lifesaving in patients with severe but reversible respiratoryfailure and/or or cardiac failure, refractory to conventional therapy. ECMO isnot a cure for the underlying disease, but it is used as temporary support andoffers time for
