Extraction and chemistry of annatto

Food Chemistry, 1980
Abstract Annatto extracts contained in the pericarp of the fruit Bixa orellana are extracted by several methods. Commercial preparations consist of solutions or suspensions of the pigment in vegetable oil or as a water-soluble form in dilute alkaline solution.

Chemistry and microbiology in sugar extraction

Sugar Industry, 2021
The stability of the sucrose molecule and the firmness of the tissue structure in the cossettes are of major concern when optimizing the operating conditions for the extraction system. For a given extraction system the retention time is more or less fixed, but the actual pH values and temperatures to be set across the system largely determine the ...

Scandium – Leaching and Extraction Chemistry

2021
Scandium (Sc) is one of the key elements in the green economy due to its use in fuel cells and as alloying metal for aluminium, but the scandium market is not working in the sense that very little is offered at a high price making it impossible to gain use of the metal.

Extraction and chemistry of cochineal

Food Chemistry, 1980
Abstract The study of ‘cochineal’ for use in food involves a wide range of unexpected disciplines. The importance of the historical, geographical and entomological backgrounds is emphasised. The chemistry of carminic acid and related hydroxyanthraquinones is shown to have been confused by the early work of Liebermann & Voswinckel (1897), but evidence

Progress in actinide extraction chemistry

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry Articles, 1990
During the last decade new extractants for actinides have been actively developed mainly to improve radiochemical processes and for analytical chemistry. At the same time our knowledge about extraction equilibrium chemistry, composition and structure of complexes became more profound.

Pituitary Gonadotropins—Chemistry, Extraction, and Immunoassay

1971
Publisher Summary This chapter examines the current status of immunological assays used to measure the pituitary gonadotropic hormones. All immunoassays basically depend on the interaction of an antigen of unique identity and its specific antibody. It is also necessary to discuss the chemical nature of the various preparations of Follicle stimulating

Anthocyanins—Occurrence, extraction and chemistry

Food Chemistry, 1980
Abstract This paper deals with those aspects of anthocyanins particularly related to beverages. The anthocyanins are briefly discussed and those present in some fruits are listed. pH is shown to affect the colour of anthocyanins, but various means of stabilisation are given.

Solvent Extraction Chemistry and Kinetics of Zirconium

Separation Science and Technology, 1980
Abstract The solvent extraction behavior of zirconium in the HN03-tributyl phosphate (TBP) system can be explained based on the existence of four principal aqueous species, Zr4+, ZrOH3+, Zr3(OH)8+ 4, and oxo-polymers. The Zr4+ and ZrOH3+ species are extractable and are in equilibrium with inextractable Zr3(OH)8+ 4.
