Biology of extrafloral nectaries in Albizzia lebbeck (Mimosaceae)

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Botany, 1991
The structure and ecology of extrafloral nectaries in Albizzia lebbeck Benth. were studied. Two flat non-porate nectaries are present on the adaxial surface of each rachis. The sub-secretory zone is parenchymatous and contains starch. Crystals of calcium oxalate of reversible nature and sclereids were observed in the nectaries.

Tree-Dwelling Ants: Contrasting Two Brazilian Cerrado Plant Species without Extrafloral Nectaries

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, 2012
Ants dominate vegetation stratum, exploiting resources like extrafloral nectaries (EFNs) and insect honeydew. These interactions are frequent in Brazilian cerrado and are well known, but few studies compare ant fauna and explored resources between plant ...

First report of the use of extrafloral nectaries of Bauhinia forficata Link (Fabales: Fabaceae) by Tetragonisca angustula Latreille (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

open access: yesRevista Chilena de Entomología, 2019
We report here for the first time the use of extrafloral nectaries of Bauhinia forficata Link by Tetragonisca angustula (Latreille, 1811). This behavior was observed in an urban area in southern Brazil during the afternoon between December 2018 and ...

Extrafloral Nectar of Bottle Gourd: Synthesis and Role of Carbohydrates as a Dietary Supplement for Nesidiocoris tenuis Reuter (Heteroptera: Miridae)

open access: yesAgriculture
Plants can provide natural enemies with alternative food resources that enhance their performance in addition to prey consumption. Extrafloral nectaries attract beneficial insects by supplying nectar in exchange for pest suppression, although other ...

Distribution of Plants with Extrafloral Nectaries in Temperate Communities

open access: yesAmerican Midland Naturalist, 1980
The abundance of plants with extrafloral nectaries was determined for a series of temperate habitats in Nebraska. Mean cover of plants with extrafloral nectaries was 1.3% in riparian forest understory, 1.8% in virgin deciduous forest understory, 0.0% in tall-grass prairie, and 8.3% in sandhill prairie.
