The distribution and behavior of extragonadal primordial germ cells in Bax mutant mice suggest a novel origin for sacrococcygeal germ cell tumors

open access: yes, 2008
In the mouse, germ cells that do not reach the genital ridges rapidly die by a wave of apoptosis that requires the pro-apoptotic protein Bax. In Bax-null embryos, large numbers of ectopic (extragonadal) germ cells fail to die.

Primary Extragonadal Retroperitoneal Pure Yolk Sac Tumor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We describe a rare case of an extragonadal retroperitoneal pure yolk sac (endodermal sinus) tumor in the paraaortic region. Radiologic investigation, which included abdominal ultrasound ,computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI ...

Giant Fetal Sacrococcygeal Teratoma: Prenatal Detection, Monitoring, and Postnatal Management—A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT) is a rare congenital tumor arising from pluripotent cells at the base of the coccyx and is most often detected during antenatal imaging. In this case, a massive SCT was identified at 26 + 2 weeks during routine ultrasound.

Higher frequency of chromosomal aberrations in ovarian endometriosis compared to extragonadal endometriosis: A possible link to endometrioid adenocarcinoma

open access: yes, 2006
Endometriosis may progress to invasive endometrioid adenocarcinoma, particularly in the ovary. Up to now, little is known of the molecular mechanisms possibly involved in the malignant transformation of endometriosis.

Extragonadal malignant teratoma in a dog - case report

open access: yes, 2020
Teratomas are neoplasms thought to arise from germ cells which usually occur within gonads and are rarely described on extragonadal sites. The present study reports a case of a 15 year old female mongrel dog with a lumbosacral tumor.

Extragonadal germ cell tumors

open access: yesAnnals of Oncology, 2002
Germ cell cancer is the most common malignancy in men aged 15–35 years; 5% of the malignant germ cell tumors are of extragonadal origin [1]. An extragonadal germ cell tumor (EGGCT) is by definition a germ cell neoplasm displaying one of the histologies associated with gonadal origin, but located outside of the gonads.

Spontaneous miscarriage after intracytoplasmic sperm injection with frozen sperm of patients with testicular germ cell tumour

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 138, Issue 2, Page 315-323, August 2026.
Objective To clarify the impact of chromosomal aberrations on the offspring of patients with testicular germ cell tumour (TGCT) by evaluating the outcomes of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Patients and Methods Under the ethical review of Yokohama City University, 12 patients with TGCT and 25 with non‐TGCT cancer who had cryopreserved sperm ...

Diagnostic Challenges in Choroid Plexus Tumours

open access: yesNeuropathology and Applied Neurobiology, Volume 52, Issue 4, August 2026.
In this review, we summarise the diagnostic spectrum of choroid plexus tumours, highlight key age‐dependent differential diagnoses across infants, children/adolescents and adults, and outline how histopathology, immunohistochemistry and molecular profiling support accurate tumour classification.
