Development of CCMb: A Low‐Mg Calcite Reference Material for In Situ Measurement of δ18O, δ13C and Selected Trace Elements

open access: yesGeostandards and Geoanalytical Research, EarlyView.
Key Points Low‐Mg calcite RM developed for in situ microanalysis applications in palaeoclimatology (δ18O, δ13C; Mg, Sr m/m). New data for calcite CRM IAEA‐603 (δ18O, δ13C by SIMS and GS‐IRMS; Mg m/m). No detectable IMF effect of Mg on SIMS δ18O determinations for mass fractions < 3650 μg g‐1.

The calibration of photographic and spectroscopic films. A densitometric analysis of IIaO film flown aboard the space shuttle transportation system STS3, STS8, and STS7 [PDF]

open access: yes
The results of these studies have implications for the utilization of the IIaO spectroscopic film on the future shuttle and space lab missions. These responses to standard photonic energy sources will have immediate application for the uneven responses ...

CO depletion in infrared dark clouds

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Infrared dark clouds (IRDCs) are cold, dense structures that are likely representative of the initial conditions of star formation. Many studies of IRDCs employ CO to investigate cloud dynamics, but CO can be highly depleted from the gas phase ...

Jumping the energetics queue: Modulation of pulsar signals by extraterrestrial civilizations

open access: yes, 2014
It has been speculated that technological civilizations evolve along an energy consumption scale first formulated by Kardashev, ranging from human-like civilizations that consume energy at a rate of $\sim 10^{19}$ erg s$^{-1}$ to hypothetical highly ...

Noble gases and nitrogen in material from asteroid Bennu

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract We report the elemental and isotopic abundances of all stable noble gases (helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon) in eight particles from asteroid Bennu returned by NASA's OSIRIS‐REx mission. We also report nitrogen abundances and isotopic ratios that were analyzed alongside neon and argon in four additional Bennu particles.

Vertical profiling of shock attenuation at the Rochechouart impact structure, France

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Rochechouart, south‐west France, is a complex impact structure. Here, we present the first report of shock barometry of quartz from what are likely parautochthonous basement units at depth, based on samples from the 2017 C.I.R.I.R drilling campaign. The crystallographic orientations of 725 sets of PDFs in 512 quartz grains in samples from four
