Ethics and the Extraterrestrial Environment
Journal of Applied Philosophy, 1993ABSTRACT After a brief review of environmental ethics this paper examines how terrestrial environmental values can be developed into policies to protect extraterrestrial environments. Shallow environmentalism, deep environmentalism and the libertarian extension of rights are compared and then applied to the environmental protection of extraterrestrial ...

Space and the Extraterrestrial Environment
Space 2002 and Robotics 2002, 2002As humankind proceeds with space exploration, colonization, and development of space activities in the 21st Century, the relationship between space and the extraterrestrial environment emerges as a crucial area. A number of questions in this regard need to be considered and addressed: do humans have a right to extract resources from space and planetary

Building in Extraterrestrial Environments: T-Brick Shell
Journal of Architectural Engineering, 2018Space exploration focuses on new technologies to search the unknown. It has been used to investigate possibilities for the creation of human colonies in extraterrestrial environments. Current projects concerning space architecture reflect two perspectives that differ from highly rationalized engineering solutions in that they are highly conceptual and ...

Experimental methods for studying microbial survival in extraterrestrial environments
Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2010Microorganisms can be used as model systems for studying biological responses to extraterrestrial conditions; however, the methods for studying their response are extremely challenging. Since the first high altitude microbiological experiment in 1935 a large number of facilities have been developed for short- and long-term microbial exposure ...

Thermochemolysis in search for organics in extraterrestrial environments
Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis, 2009It has been suggested that extraterrestrial organic material may well represent an important part of the organic material available for the origin of life. It may be expected that early life on Mars was similar to prokaryotic life on Earth and whatever preceded the prokaryotes.

A survey on robot localization in extraterrestrial environments
SoutheastCon 2016, 2016Localization plays a key role during autonomous operation of mobile robots in planetary exploration missions. It is a challenging task due to the uncertainty in the environment and limitations in communications. In this paper we discuss various technologies that can be considered for localization of robots in extraterrestrial environments and also ...
