Building in Extraterrestrial Environments: T-Brick Shell
Journal of Architectural Engineering, 2018Space exploration focuses on new technologies to search the unknown. It has been used to investigate possibilities for the creation of human colonies in extraterrestrial environments. Current projects concerning space architecture reflect two perspectives that differ from highly rationalized engineering solutions in that they are highly conceptual and ...

Experimental methods for studying microbial survival in extraterrestrial environments
Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2010Microorganisms can be used as model systems for studying biological responses to extraterrestrial conditions; however, the methods for studying their response are extremely challenging. Since the first high altitude microbiological experiment in 1935 a large number of facilities have been developed for short- and long-term microbial exposure ...

Thermochemolysis in search for organics in extraterrestrial environments
Journal of Analytical and Applied Pyrolysis, 2009It has been suggested that extraterrestrial organic material may well represent an important part of the organic material available for the origin of life. It may be expected that early life on Mars was similar to prokaryotic life on Earth and whatever preceded the prokaryotes.

A survey on robot localization in extraterrestrial environments
SoutheastCon 2016, 2016Localization plays a key role during autonomous operation of mobile robots in planetary exploration missions. It is a challenging task due to the uncertainty in the environment and limitations in communications. In this paper we discuss various technologies that can be considered for localization of robots in extraterrestrial environments and also ...

Human utilization of subsurface extraterrestrial environments.
Gravitational and space biology bulletin : publication of the American Society for Gravitational and Space Biology, 2003Caves have been used in the ancient past as shelter or habitat by many organisms (including humans). Since antiquity, humans have explored caves for the minerals they contain and sometimes for ceremonial purposes. Over the past century, caves have become the target of increasing exploration, scientific research, and recreation.

Origins of Life and Evolution of Biospheres, 2006
We have investigated gas-phase reactions of N((2)D) with the most abundant hydrocarbons in the atmosphere of Titan by the crossed molecular beam technique. In all cases, molecular products containing a novel CN bond are formed, thus suggesting possible routes of formation of gas-phase nitriles in the atmosphere of Titan and primordial Earth.

The Effects Of Extraterrestrial Environments On High Voltage Distribution
Proceedings of the 25th Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, 2005The problems encountered in the transmission of high-power (kilowatts to megawatts) in extraterrestrial environments are reviewed. A summary of the work at Auburn University in the study of these problems is presented. These studies include high-voltage breakdown in the space environment as influenced by gas contamination and thermal stress, the ...
