Iron and copper sulfides in asteroid (162173) Ryugu: Formation conditions and a comparison to the CI and CY chondrites

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 3, Page 506-528, March 2025.
Abstract JAXA's Hayabusa2 sample return mission visited the volatile‐rich carbonaceous (C‐type) asteroid (162173) Ryugu with the aim of ground‐truthing remote observations, returning a pristine sample from a C‐type asteroid, and strengthening links between asteroids and the meteorite collection. Here, we have conducted a systematic study of coarse (>10

Should Evolution Necessarily be Egolution?

open access: yes, 2017
In the article I study the evolutionary adaptivity of two simple population models, based on either altruistic or egoistic law of energy exchange. The computational experiments show the convincing advantage of the altruists, which brings us to a small ...

In Search of Extraterrestrial Artificial Intelligence Through Dyson Sphere–like Structures around Primordial Black Holes

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Are we alone? It is a compelling question that human beings have confronted for centuries. The search for extraterrestrial life is a broad range of quests for finding simple forms of life up to intelligent beings in the Universe. The plausible assumption

Multiplication of microbes below 0.690 water activity: implications for terrestrial and extraterrestrial life.

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, 2015
Since a key requirement of known life forms is available water (water activity; aw ), recent searches for signatures of past life in terrestrial and extraterrestrial environments have targeted places known to have contained significant quantities of ...

VIS‐to‐MIR reflectance and Raman spectroscopy of the CM2 NWA 12184 carbonaceous chondrite

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, Volume 60, Issue 3, Page 570-595, March 2025.
Abstract The spectral analysis of CM meteorites can help to constrain the mineralogical composition of their parent body, the C‐type asteroids. The CM2 NWA 12184 was spectrally examined employing seven complementary techniques at different spatial resolutions, including VIS‐to‐MIR reflectance and Raman spectroscopy.

Documenting microbial populations within the University of Alberta Meteorite Curation Facility using 16S rRNA gene sequencing: Implications for the curation of astromaterials

open access: yesMeteoritics &Planetary Science, EarlyView.
Abstract Meteorites are easily contaminated at the Earth's surface by microbial activity. Here, DNA extracts from two meteorite specimens and samples from curation laboratory surfaces are analyzed with amplicon sequencing, to understand microbial communities that contaminate meteorites and that may be resident in curation facilities.
