Capturing the multivariate extremal index: bounds and interconnections
The multivariate extremal index function is a direction specific extension of the well-known univariate extremal index. Since statistical inference on this function is difficult it is desirable to have a broad characterization of its attributes.

Increasing Upper EXTREMITY FUNCTION
AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 1964The use of our hands is vital to physical accomplishments and intricately interwoven into our ability to communicate. We especially reveal feelings with our hands: the clenched fist of anger, the nervous fingers of tension, the touch of a hand in tenderness.

On the Extremals of a Functional on the Plane
Differential Equations, 2004The existence of extremals for an integral functional is considered. The extremals of the functional considered are solutions of some boundary value problem. Under certain assumptions, the existence of a solution to the boundary value problem is proved.

An extremal property of the Mbius function
Archiv der Mathematik, 1989For a squarefree positive integer N the authors study sums of the form \(R(x)=\sum_{t| N}\vartheta_ t\{x\cdot t\}\) (where \(\vartheta_ t\) are arbitrary complex numbers and \(\{\alpha \}=\alpha -[\alpha]\) as usual) and establish a lower bound for the mean square \(Q_ R=\int^{1}_{0}| R(x)|^ 2 dx\).

Functional metagenomics of extreme environments
Current Opinion in Biotechnology, 2016The bioprospecting of enzymes that operate under extreme conditions is of particular interest for many biotechnological and industrial processes. Nevertheless, there is a considerable limitation to retrieve novel enzymes as only a small fraction of microorganisms derived from extreme environments can be cultured under standard laboratory conditions ...

Assessment of Upper Extremity Function
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 2019Assessment of upper extremity function either before or after surgical treatment has been a rapidly evolving field. A reproducible, accurate, and valid assessment tool provides the ability to compare surgical interventions, evaluate physical therapy regimens, and assess novel assistive and restorative technologies.

CARDIOVASCULAR FUNCTION IN EXTREME OBESITY
Acta Medica Scandinavica, 1973AbstractCardiovascular function in 19 patients with obesity has been studied by electrocardiography (ECG), exercise test, determination of heart and blood volumes, and right heart catheterization. Pathological ECG findings appeared in one patient at rest and during exercise, and in another only during exercise.

Extremal functions for rooted minors
Journal of Graph Theory, 2008AbstractThe graph G contains a graph H as a minor if there exist pairwise disjoint sets {Si ⊆ V(G)|i = 1,…,|V(H)|} such that for every i, G[Si] is a connected subgraph and for every edge uv in H, there exists an edge of G with one end in Su and the other end in Sv. A rooted H minor in G is a minor where each Si of the minor contains a predetermined xi ∈
