Future changes in the mean and extreme sea surface winds over the East Asian marginal seas projected by regional climate models

open access: yes, 2019
Sea surface wind, especially extreme winds, plays a crucial role in coastal safety including flooding and coastal erosion mainly by changing sea level and ocean wind waves, and the regional characteristics of sea surface wind can be in uenced by global ...

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Hazard analysis of typhoon-related external events using extreme value theory

open access: yesNuclear Engineering and Technology, 2015
Background: After the Fukushima accident, the importance of hazard analysis for extreme external events was raised. Methods: To analyze typhoon-induced hazards, which are one of the significant disasters of East Asian countries, a statistical analysis ...

Hyperactive ice‐binding proteins stabilize cell membranes and improve resistance to dehydration stress in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
TisIBP8, a fungal‐derived hyperactive ice‐binding protein, helps Caenorhabditis elegans survive dehydration. It localizes near cell membranes, reduces cell damage, and helps maintain membrane structure during drying. These results suggest that ice‐binding proteins can protect cells from dehydration stress as well as freezing stress.

GFC-Robust Risk Management Under the Basel Accord Using Extreme Value Methodologies [PDF]

open access: yes
In McAleer et al. (2010b), a robust risk management strategy to the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) was proposed under the Basel II Accord by selecting a Value-at-Risk (VaR) forecast that combines the forecasts of different VaR models.

Extreme Value Analysis for Peak Heliostat Wind Load Predictions

open access: yesSolarPACES Conference Proceedings
This study investigated high-frequency load fluctuations on a rectangular heliostat model in a boundary layer wind tunnel experiment. Statistical methods for peak wind load predictions were compared with load distributions through load cell and surface ...

Transcripts enriched in codons that trigger P‐site tRNA‐mediated mRNA decay possess stable mRNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PTMD codons were first described by Mendel et al. as mediators of an mRNA decay pathway dependent on the human protein CNOT3, homologous to yeast Not5. Our findings confirm that PTMD codons destabilize transcripts; however, unlike in yeast, the human pathway specifically targets and slightly destabilizes primarily stable mRNAs.

A probabilistic analysis of wind gusts using extreme value statistics

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2009
The spatial variability of wind gusts is probably as large as that of precipitation, but the observational weather station network is much less dense. The lack of an area-wide observational analysis hampers the forecast verification of wind gust warnings.

Extreme Value GARCH modelling with Bayesian Inference [PDF]

open access: yes
Extreme value theory is widely used financial applications such as risk analysis, forecasting and pricing models. One of the major difficulties in the applications to finance and economics is that the assumption of independence of time series ...

MagmaFlow: A desktop platform for artificial intelligence‐driven expression analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
MagmaFlow is a free, no‐code platform for gene expression analysis. It generates interactive volcano plots, links genes to literature, pathways, and diseases, prioritizes candidates using millions of publications, identifies affected biological processes, builds network diagrams, and exports publication‐ready figures and reports for macOS and Windows ...
