RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.

A New Extreme Detection Method for Remote Compound Extremes in Southeast China

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2021
The compound heat wave and extreme precipitation events are responsible for severe damages to the environment and human societies. Although major advances have been made in understanding the compound extremes (e.g., drought and heat wave), little is ...

Medical Evaluation for Exposure Extremes [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Journal of Sport Medicine, 2015
Exertional heat illness can be a serious consequence of sports or exercise in hot environments. Participants can possess intrinsic or face extrinsic risk factors that may increase their risk for heat-related illness. Knowledge of the physiology and pathology of heat illness, identification of risk factors, and strategies to combat heat accumulation ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

A comparative analysis of accelerating humid and dry heat stress in India

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
Extreme humid heat stress poses distinct challenges to human health and productivity that cannot be mitigated solely by heat action plans designed for dry heat stress. This study investigates the trends in extreme heat stress, differentiating between dry

Extreme heat, preterm birth, and stillbirth: A global analysis across 14 lower-middle income countries

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2022
Stillbirths and complications from preterm birth are two of the leading causes of neonatal deaths across the globe. Lower- to middle-income countries (LMICs) are experiencing some of the highest rates of these adverse birth outcomes.

Hands‐on protocol for preparing water‐soluble fractions from agri‐food samples for NMR‐based metabolomics analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This research protocol outlines a workflow for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)‐based metabolomics in the agri‐food sector. Using two case studies—strawberry leaves (solid matrix) and wine (liquid matrix)—it details the procedures for sample preparation, data acquisition, and processing.
