Assessing Extreme Drought Using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) in the Harohar-Punpun Basin, Bihar, India

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environment and Climate Change, 2023
By definition drought is a long period of deficient rainfall, especially one that badly affects growing or living conditions. Rainfall is believed to be a normal, wet and dry climate condition. It is one of the most important water-associated hazards.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Temporal and Spatial Evolution Characteristics of Extreme Climate Events in Grand Shangri-La Region from 1961 to 2019

open access: yesRenmin Zhujiang, 2022
The Grand Shangri-La region connects the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, and the Hengduan Mountains and is of great geographical significance.Five rivers flow through the region, and the climate is vulnerable. Therefore,it is necessary to ...

Safety of Prescription Nonsteroidal Anti‐inflammatory Drugs in Adults With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Data From a Large Administrative Claims Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The concern that nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may precipitate flares of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has limited their use in managing musculoskeletal symptoms in those with IBD, but safety data are mixed. Methods This retrospective cohort study included patients with IBD aged at least 18 years from Optum's deidentified ...

Indexes of temperature and precipitation extremes in Podgorica in the period 1951-2008

open access: yesJournal of the Geographical Institute Jovan Cviji?, SASA, 2011
World Meteorological Organization has defined a series of indices and proposed using of them in research of climate changes, in analysis of air temperature extremes changes, quantities of precipitation and other meteorological parameters. In large part of the Montenegro, annual values of air temperature and quantity of precipitation show statistically ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

The Connection between Extreme Precipitation Variability over Monsoon Asia and Large-Scale Circulation Patterns

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2021
Spatial and temporal variability in precipitation has been dramatically changed due to climate variability and climate change over the global domain. Increasing in extreme precipitation events are pronounced in various regions, including monsoon Asia (MA)
