Optoelectronic Synaptic Devices Using Molecular Telluride Phase‐Change Inks for Three‐Factor Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Optoelectronic synaptic devices based on solution‐processed molecular telluride GST‐225 phase‐change inks are demonstrated for three‐factor learning. A global optical signal broadcast through a silicon waveguide induces non‐volatile conductance updates exclusively in locally electrically flagged memristors.

Changes and inter-model spread in 21st century scenarios for temperature and precipitation extremes as seen with the climate change index (CCI) [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2008
The amplitude and inter-model spread (IMS) of late 21st century changes in temperature and precipitation extremes in 21 Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 3 models are analyzed using the recently introduced climate change index (CCI) and its components. Strong changes in extremes are found which are similar to those found using older data. Large IMS

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Submicron Metasurface Reconfigured Multiband Smart Windows

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a submicron metasurface reconfigured multiband thermochromic smart window. By integrating subwavelength nanostructures into a Fabry−Perot resonator configuration, it mitigates conventional trade‐offs to simultaneously deliver high luminous transmittance and robust solar heating and radiative cooling modulation capabilities ...

Investigation of Changes in the Amount and Distribution of Extreme Precipitation and Its Effect on the Trend of Changes in the NDVI Index Changes in Southeast Iran [PDF]

open access: yesآب و توسعه پایدار
This study investigated the effect of extreme precipitation values on the trend of vegetation cover change in southeastern Iran. Extreme precipitation indices were selected using a fixed approach recommended by the Expert Team on Climate Change Detection

The synoptic drivers of extreme rainfall in South Africa

open access: yes, 2013
A number of studies have shown an increase in the intensity of extreme rainfall over many regions of South Africa during the last 50 to 100 years. However, the weather of a region at any given time is a direct function of the synoptic state of the ...

Precipitation downscaling in Canadian prairie provinces using the LARS-WG and GLM approaches

open access: yes, 2013
Two stochastic precipitation simulation models, namely the Long Ashton Research Station weather generator (LARS-WG) and a Generalized Linear Model-based weather generator (GLM-WG), are evaluated for downscaling daily precipitation at four selected ...

Probability Distribution of Precipitation Extremes for Weather Index–Based Insurance in the Zhujiang River Basin, South China

open access: yesJournal of Hydrometeorology, 2012
Abstract In a changing climate, understanding the frequency of weather extremes is crucial to improving the management of the associated risks. The concept of weather index–based insurance is introduced as a new approach in weather risk adaptation. It can decrease the vulnerability to precipitation extremes that cause floods and economic
