ABSTRACT Increased frequency of extreme weather events, particularly droughts, threatens grassland farming by destabilizing yields and farms' economic viability. We examine, theoretically and through numerical simulations, how sown plant diversity (natural insurance) influences the attractiveness of indemnity and drought index insurance (formal ...

Multifractality and rainfall extremes: A review [PDF]
The multifractal representation of rainfall and its use to predict rainfall extremes have advanced significantly in recent years. This paper summarizes this body of work and points at some open questions. The need for a coherent overview comes in part from the use of different terminology, notation, and analysis methods in the literature and in part ...

Drivers of Precision Agriculture Adoption in Italian Viticulture
ABSTRACT This study examines the main drivers influencing the adoption of two types of precision farming technologies in the viticultural sector: Decision Support Systems (DSSs) and Variable Rate Technologies (VRTs). We apply a partial proportional odds model and find that socio‐demographic characteristics are not significant determinants of adoption ...

Statistical Modelling of Extreme Rainfall in Taiwan [PDF]
In this paper, the annual maximum daily rainfall data from 1961 to 2010 are modelled for 18 stations in Taiwan. We fit the rainfall data with stationary and non-stationary generalized extreme value distributions (GEV), and estimate their future behaviour based on the best fitting model.

Prediction of extreme rainfall with a generalized extreme value distribution [PDF]
Extreme rainfall causes heavy losses in human life and properties. Hence many works have been done to predict extreme rainfall by using extreme value distributions. In this study, we use a generalized extreme value distribution to derive the posterior predictive density with hierarchical Bayesian approach based on the data of Seoul area from 1973 to ...

Extreme Weather Events and Consumer Food Responses
ABSTRACT This study investigates consumer food responses to Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which affected a swath of the Southeastern U.S. in 2024. Using representative consumer survey data from six affected states, we analyze 10 distinct food responses classified into ex ante and ex post responses, and examine their associations with food insufficiency

ABSTRACT EU member states have exhibited varying rates of apple production growth. Technical efficiency (TE) estimation is suitable for identifying best‐practice farm performance. This study examined whether the development of the apple sector in Germany, Italy, and Poland was influenced by production efficiency, access to technology, as well as ...

ABSTRACT Native plants offer a variety of aesthetic (e.g., fall colour, fruit, flowers) and functional benefits (e.g., pollinator friendly, wildlife friendly, water management). How these benefits influence consumer choice and perceived value of native versus introduced plants is not well understood.

Characterizing the extreme and heavy rainfall events in the Serang catchment, Indonesia using satellite data [PDF]
This study analyses the characteristics of heavy and extreme rainfall in the Serang Watershed, Kulon Progo, during 2019-2021 by combining observational rainfall data with GSMaP satellite data. Intensity, duration, and frequency (IDF) analysis was used to
