Extremely-Low-Noise Preamplifier for Audio Frequencies [PDF]
A low-frequency low-noise preamplifier has been designed around a recently developed field-effect transistor (FET). Data are presented on the noise performance of this FET circuit as compared with a state-of-the-art bipolar transistor circuit. The theoretical source noise for the FET circuit is computed and compared with measured values.

Audition in vampire bats, Desmodus rotundus [PDF]
1. Within the tonotopic organization of the inferior colliculus two frequency ranges are well represented: a frequency range within that of the echolocation signals from 50 to 100 kHz, and a frequency band below that of the echolocation sounds, from 10 ...

High-resolution broadband spectroscopy using externally dispersed interferometry at the Hale telescope: part 2, photon noise theory [PDF]
High-resolution broadband spectroscopy at near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths (950 to 2450 nm) has been performed using externally dispersed interferometry (EDI) at the Hale telescope at Mt.

Recycled Noise Rectification: A Dumb Maxwell's Daemon [PDF]
The one dimensional motion of a massless Brownian particle on a symmetric periodic substrate can be rectified by re-injecting its driving noise through a realistic recycling procedure.

Metrology and 1/f noise: linear regressions and confidence intervals in flicker noise context [PDF]
1/f noise is very common but is difficult to handle in a metrological way. After having recalled the main characteristics of stongly correlated noise, this paper will determine relationships giving confidence intervals over the arithmetic mean and the ...

LISA pathfinder micronewton cold gas thrusters: in-flight characterization [PDF]
The LISA Pathfinder (LPF) mission has demonstrated the ability to limit and measure the fluctuations in acceleration between two free falling test masses down to sub-femto-g levels. One of the key elements to achieve such a level of residual acceleration

Millisecond and Binary Pulsars as Nature's Frequency Standards. II. Effects of Low-Frequency Timing Noise on Residuals and Measured Parameters [PDF]
Pulsars are the most stable natural frequency standards. They can be applied to a number of principal problems of modern astronomy and time-keeping metrology. The full exploration of pulsar properties requires obtaining unbiased estimates of the spin and
