Multimodal Human–Robot Interaction Using Human Pose Estimation and Local Large Language Models
A multimodal human–robot interaction framework integrates human pose estimation (HPE) and a large language model (LLM) for gesture‐ and voice‐based robot control. Speech‐to‐text (STT) enables voice command interpretation, while a safety‐aware arbitration mechanism prioritizes gesture input for rapid intervention.

Push the Limits: Human‐Like Multimodal Extreme Embodied Intelligence for Autonomous Racing
Autonomous racing tests embodied intelligence under extreme control limits of speed, actuation, and decision‐making. Inspired by human multimodality, we present Apex, an embodied agent deployed on a super‐formula racing car at Yas Marina. Integrating physics‐informed perception, multimodal learning, and tasking, Apex cuts lap times by 15% and achieves ...

A Low‐Cost, Handheld Optical Stiffness Sensor for Minimally Invasive Surgery
A novel handheld stiffness sensor is presented for real‐time tissue stiffness characterization. By simultaneously sensing contact force and tissue deformation, the device enables accurate stiffness quantification without requiring precise manual control. This approach offers a promising solution for intraoperative tumor detection and minimally invasive

Intelligent Micro/Nanorobots for Targeted Interventional Therapy: From Bench to Clinic
Zirui Zhang et al. reviewed the application and challenges of mobile nanomachines in interventional therapy. By converting exogenous energy, including chemical, magnetic, optical, and ultrasonic sources, into mechanical forces, micro/nanorobots (MNRs) enable precise actuation at unprecedented scales. Evolving far beyond traditional drug delivery, these

How children read pictures and text in some science school books: eye-tracking studies
In an eye-tracking pilot-project we have asked 6 children, age of 11, to read an opening, from a geography book for grade five. The aim of the study was to investigatethe role of illustrations in text-books and to what extent they contribute to the ...
