Evaluation of the cut quality of Masyk® microkeratome in obtaining corneal flap from human eyes of an Eye Bank [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
PURPOSE: To evaluate the cut quality of Masyk® microkeratome in obtaining a corneal flap from human eyes of Eye Banks. METHODS: Prospective study with 20 human eyes from Eye Banks. All flaps were programmed to obtain 160 µm thickness and 9.5 mm diameter.

Artificial intelligence‐assisted design, synthesis and analysis of smart biomaterials

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Smart biomaterials are rapidly emerging as tools for tissue engineering, and artificial intelligence has played essential roles in biomaterial studies. By bridging the literature gap in AI‐based design, synthesis and analysis of smart biomaterials, the current review shares perspectives on how biomaterial scientists can practically incorporate AI for ...

Posterior Lamellar Graft Preparation: A Prospective Review from an Eye Bank on Current and Future Aspects

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2013
Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) is a corneal surgical technique which selectively replaces the damaged posterior part of the cornea with a healthy donor graft retaining the rest of the tissue intact.

The kinematics and binary-induced shaping of PN HaTr 4 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
We present the first detailed spatio-kinematical analysis of the planetary nebula HaTr 4, one of few known to contain a post-Common-Envelope central star system. Based on high spatial and spectral resolution spectroscopy of the [OIII]5004.84 angstrom nebular emission line, in combination with deep, narrow-band imagery, a spatio-kinematical model was ...

The influence of binarity on the morpho-kinematics of planetary nebulae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The role of central star binarity in the shaping of planetary nebulae (PNe) has been the subject of much debate, with single stars believed to be incapable of producing the most highly collimated morphologies. However, observational support for binary-induced shaping has been sadly lacking.

The Roots of Banking Crises: The Macroeconomic Context [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper discusses the ways in which macroeconomic developments can put stress on banks, and in extreme cases lead to banking crises. These macroeconomic causes of bank vulnerability and crisis have important implications for regulatory regimes, and ...

Propelling the Transition to Circular Economy: Exploring the Role of Corporate Circular Economy Performance‐Based Incentive Policy

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study examines the impact of executive compensation (EC) and corporate circular economy performance incentives (CCEPI) on corporate circular economy initiatives (CCEI) and corporate circular economy performance (CCEP) by integrating legitimacy theory and the resource‐based view.

Sex-Classification from Cell-Phones Periocular Iris Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Selfie soft biometrics has great potential for various applications ranging from marketing, security and online banking. However, it faces many challenges since there is limited control in data acquisition conditions. This chapter presents a Super-Resolution-Convolutional Neural Networks (SRCNNs) approach that increases the resolution of low quality ...

Faint Repetitions from a Bright Fast Radio Burst Source [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We report the detection of repeat bursts from the source of FRB 171019, one of the brightest fast radio bursts (FRBs) detected in the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) fly's eye survey. Two bursts from the source were detected with the Green Bank Telescope in observations centered at 820 MHz. The repetitions are a factor of $\sim 590$

Why do central banks monitor so many inflation indicators? [PDF]

open access: yes
Monetary policy is typically undertaken with an eye to achieving a select few objectives in the long run. The Federal Reserve conducts monetary policy to promote two long-run goals: price stability and sustainable economic growth. In many other countries,
