The eye in Wilson disease [PDF]

open access: yesQJM, 2010
Although the distinctive and diagnostically valuable signs present in the eyes of patients with symptomatic Wilson disease have been described in specialist journals and in monographs1,2 on this disease, they have received little attention in the general literature. Furthermore, they have not been definitively illustrated.

Knockout of the mitoribosome rescue factors Ict1 or Mtrfr is viable in zebrafish but not mice: compensatory mechanisms underlying each factor's loss

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mitochondria contain two mitoribosome rescue factors, ICT1 and MTRFR (C12orf65). ICT1 also functions as a mitoribosomal protein in mice and humans, and its loss is lethal. Although Mtrfr knockout mice could not be generated, knockout zebrafish lines for ict1 and mtrfr were established.

Fixation instability in amblyopia: Oculomotor disease biomarkers predictive of treatment effectiveness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Amblyopic patients are known to have fixation instability, particularly of the amblyopic eye. The stability of the fixation is affected by the presence of nystagmus, the frequency and amplitude of fixational saccades and inter-saccadic drifts.

Matrix: a complex amalgam of structures and functions in tumor microenvironment

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The matrix is a dynamic, intricate three‐dimensional mesh of biomolecules with both structural and functional properties. This review deals with the complexity of this ‘molecular amalgam’ in the tumor microenvironment and highlights its importance in the maintenance and evolution of tumors by describing certain matrix biomolecules, such as ...

P38 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase Protects Against Retinoblastoma Through Regulating USP22/SIRT1/SOST Axis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2022
Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common intraocular malignancy in children. It has been previously reported that p38 MAPK is related to the pathogenesis of RB. Here we aim at investigating how p38 MAPK affected RB progression through mediating USP22/SIRT1/

Implementasi Metode Dempster Shafer dan Desain Basis Data pada Sistem Pakar Diagnosa Penyakit Mata [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Limited knowledge of the patient against eye disease becomes a problem and make the patient difficult to predict the eye disease he suffered. In this case, the patient will need an expert who can early diagnose eye disease in order to prevent early.

Mitochondrial DNA disorders in neuromuscular diseases in diverse populations

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
Abstract Neuromuscular features are common in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) disorders. The genetic architecture of mtDNA disorders in diverse populations is poorly understood. We analysed mtDNA variants from whole‐exome sequencing data in neuromuscular patients from South Africa, Brazil, India, Turkey and Zambia. In 998 individuals, there were two definite
