Targeted Delivery of Microneurotrophin BNN27 via Biomaterial Grafts Protects Retinal Ganglion Cells After Optic Nerve Injury

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 114, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Emerging neurotrophin treatments for optic nerve injury (ONI) aim to prevent the loss of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and enhance axonal regeneration. Microneurotrophins (MNTs), small‐molecule mimetics of neurotrophins, have shown neuroprotective effects in various animal models of neurodegeneration, yet MNT effects on ONI remain unknown ...

Corneal Nerve Regeneration via MSC‐Derived EVs: Tissue Source and Culture Dimensionality Dictate miRNA Cargo and Therapeutic Efficacy

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 6, 27 January 2026.
Mesenchymal stem cell‐derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) from human cornea and bone marrow, cultured in 2D and 3D conditions, are characterized and tested for corneal nerve repair. 3D‐derived EVs show superior therapeutic efficacy and in vivo reinnervation.

Comparison of Diagnostic Utilities in a Canine Retrobulbar Large B‐Cell Lymphoma With Multifocal Involvement

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2026.
This case details a rare retrobulbar lymphoma with multifocal involvement. Diagnostic modalities included MRI/CT, cytology of various sites, immunophenotyping and PARR. These tests confirmed diverse cellular populations and Ig clonality across affected tissues. ABSTRACT Lymphoma is the most common malignant neoplasm in dogs.

Diabetes Induces Accumulation of Carbonylated Proteins in the Rat Retinal Pigment Epithelium Independently of Oxidative Stress

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 8, Issue 1, January 2026.
The retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) plays a crucial role in retinal function, regulating the flow of metabolites and ions between the choroidal blood supply and the outer retina. Early hyperglycemia induced by streptozotocin results in elevated levels of oxidized proteins and lipid peroxidation.
