A Geometrically Transient Platform for Bioelectronic Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Minimally invasive bioelectronic implants often compromise performance for smaller sizes. To resolve this optimization dilemma, a wireless bioelectronic implant with a transient geometry is introduced (MiFi). The origami‐inspired device miniaturizes up to sixfold for syringe insertion and autonomously unfolds post‐implantation.

A case of prolonged corneal sulfur foreign bodies and review of literature

open access: yesBMC Ophthalmology
Background This case mainly describes a relatively rare case of an old mineral-like corneal foreign body that existed for up to 20 years, and did not significantly affect the visual quality of the patient.

Energy Band Alignment and Electro‐Optical Behavior of Nearly Unstrained Monolayer MoS2 Heterostructures With GaN

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Large size (∼100 µm) monolayer MoS2 grown by LPI‐CVD on n‐GaN exhibit a high n‐type doping, very low strain, and a type‐I band alignment at MoS2/GaN interface. Photocurrent measurements under illumination with photon energies from ∼2 to ∼5 eV show superior electro‐optical performances of these MoS2/n‐GaN heterojunctions as compared to Ni/n‐GaN devices ...

Trois cas Curieux de Corps Etrangers Extra - Oculaires [PDF]

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 1958
The authors report three curious cases of orbital foreign body (the knob of a drawer- the point of a knife and a portion of a metallic weapon ] where despite the severity of the shock and the magnitude of the foreign bodies, the eye and the vision ...

Wrong site but intact sight

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Ophthalmology and Research
Orbital foreign bodies are common. A large metallic foreign body involving ipsilateral orbit into the maxillary sinus is potentially vision-threatening.

Intraocular Metallic Foreign Body: Role of Computed Tomography [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2014
Orbital foreign bodies remain a serious diagnostic problem, despite development of diagnostic imaging techniques. Non-metallic orbital foreign body will not be detected in routine x-ray.

Negotiating in a Foreign Land: Understanding the Curious Interactions Between Intracellular Mitochondria and Internalized Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Therapeutic nano‐drug delivery systems interact with cellular mitochondria in a multitude of ways. While the complexity of such interactions disrupts the mitochondrial electron transport chain and increases reactive oxygen species production, thereby contributing to nanoparticle toxicity, they also present unique theranostic opportunities in diseases ...

Maskless Fabrication of PLA‐Based Neural Arrays for CNS Recording and Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Biodegradable neural interfaces enable bidirectional communication with the CNS. Through electrochemical characterization, ageing tests with impedance monitoring, and in vivo validation, we assess the performance of PLA‐based epicortical and spinal implants.

A Proof‐of‐Concept Assessment of a Novel Wearable Eyelid Muscle Device: A Pre‐Clinical Animal Cadaver Study for Eyelid Closure Restoration

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This article introduces a soft wearable eyelid sling device incorporating a hydraulic soft artificial muscle (SAM) for achieving complete closure of an eyelid. The SAM is driven by a cam mechanism that provides a displacement profile closely matched with those of a healthy eyelid.
