3D‐Printed Corneal Substitutes: Materials, Fabrication, and Preclinical Progress

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Successful clinical translation of 3D‐printed corneal substitutes relies on the interplay between the bioink properties, cellular component, and the fabrication process. These factors influence the critical properties of the construct, including optical transparency, mechanical stability, suture retention, that ultimately govern long‐term stromal ...

From Rigid to Soft Robotic Approaches for Neuroendoscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Robotic assistance has had minimal impact on deep intraventricular surgeries, where small‐scale, precision, and reduced invasiveness can contribute to improved patient outcomes. Emerging technologies in rigid, soft, and hybrid robotics are reviewed to identify the most promising mechanisms for deep brain navigation in addition to an attempt to identify

ChicGrasp: Imitation‐Learning‐Based Customized Dual‐Jaw Gripper Control for Manipulation of Delicate, Irregular Bio‐Products

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Automated poultry processing lines still rely on humans to lift slippery, easily bruised carcasses onto a shackle conveyor. Deformability, anatomical variance, and hygiene rules make conventional suction and scripted motions unreliable. We present ChicGrasp, an end‐to‐end hardware‐software co‐designed imitation learning framework, to offer a ...

Trends in Penetrating Eye Injuries [PDF]

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Opthalmology, 1978
SummaryAnalysis of penetrating eye injuries resulting from motor car accidents admitted to the Alfred Hospital from 1969 to 1975 shows a continuous change of incidence and pattern of injury. These changes are related to various factors including particularly compulsory safety‐belt wearing legislation.

Penetrating eye injury from a crayfish antenna [PDF]

open access: yesMedical Journal of Australia, 2011
This is the first reported case of eye injury caused by a crayfish antenna. A 20-year-old male crayfish diver sustained a scleral penetrating injury that led to a subconjunctival abscess. The foreign body was histologically similar to a crayfish antenna.

A Whole‐Head Finite Element Model for Electrical Neuromodulation via Visual Brain‐Machine Interfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal, personalized head model is presented that integrates the entire visual pathway with surrounding tissues to simulate electrical stimulation of the optic nerve. In vivo validation in humans and goats, plus systematic component‐elimination analysis, demonstrates the high accuracy of the comprehensive model.

Intravital Multimodal Imaging of Human Cortical Organoid Transplantation in a Mouse Model of Chronic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A multimodal intravital imaging platform enables longitudinal tracking of human cortical organoids transplanted into chronic stroke lesions. By combining surgical microscopy, MRI, bioluminescence imaging, and two‐photon fluorescence microscopy, the platform captures graft placement, viability dynamics, and cellular‐scale morphology in vivo, offering a ...

Chiral Nanoparticles Suppress Inflammatory Infiltration to Promote Extracellular Matrix Remodeling for Ectopia Lentis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
L‐cysteine‐configured chiral polyurethane nanoparticles suppress ocular inflammation and reduce extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation in ectopia lentis by regulating macrophages polarization and inhibiting nuclear factor kappa B signaling pathway. By promoting zonular fiber‐associated protein restoration and tissue repair, this minimally invasive ...

Comparing detection rates of near-infrared transpalpebral transillumination, ultrasonography and radiography for foreign bodies in the anterior segment of the eye

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2020
Background: Penetrating globe injury is a leading cause of registered visual disability among working-age adults. Despite advances in imaging techniques, the detection of an intraocular foreign body (IOFB) in the projection of the ciliary body is still a
