Lid Protractor Force Generation in Graves' Eye Disease

Ophthalmology, 1986
The posterior vector of the lid protractor force was measured in 29 patients with Graves' eye disease (GED) and 70 normal subjects. Patients with GED had significantly lower mean lid protractor force generation than normal subjects, although GED patients with compressive optic neuropathy did not show this difference.

Brainstem circuits controlling lid–eye coordination in monkey

2008
In primate, the M-group is a cell cluster in the rostral mesencephalon which contains premotor neurons for the levator palpebrae (LP) and upward-pulling eye muscles. It is therefore thought to play a role in lid-eye coupling during vertical saccades. To further elucidate its role, the afferents to the M-group and LP motoneurons were studied in monkeys.

Thermal gradients were measured from the cornea to the posterior pole in the eyes of 11 chicks, six of which had the lids of one eye sutured three weeks previously. A comparison was made between eyes that were chronically closed by lid-suture (while still sutured shut) and two types of control eyes: (a) treated controls, which were the non-sutured ...
