Bridging Anatomy Curricular Gaps: Leveraging Student‐Created Video Resources in Elective Courses

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Traditional anatomical donor‐based dissection has long served as the cornerstone of anatomical education. However, with increasingly condensed curricula and diverse student learning preferences, multimedia tools have become vital adjuncts to support engagement, comprehension, and accessibility. At the Carle Illinois College of Medicine (CI MED)

Understanding of facial features in face perception: insights from deep convolutional neural networks

open access: yesFrontiers in Computational Neuroscience
IntroductionFace recognition has been a longstanding subject of interest in the fields of cognitive neuroscience and computer vision research. One key focus has been to understand the relative importance of different facial features in identifying ...

The β integrin modulates serotonin sensitivity via NPxY motifs to regulate egg laying and mechanosensation behaviors in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Integrin is an αβ heterodimeric receptor to the extracellular matrix; its binding to the matrix recruits focal adhesions to two NPxY motifs, the tyrosine phosphorylation sites in the cytoplasmic domain. Studies found that replacing tyrosines (Y) with phenylalanines (F) in the motif of β1 integrin displayed little developmental or ...

Identification based on facial parts [PDF]

open access: yesPsihologija, 2007
Two opposing views dominate face identification literature, one suggesting that the face is processed as a whole and another suggesting analysis based on parts.

Attribute-Guided Face Generation Using Conditional CycleGAN

open access: yes, 2018
We are interested in attribute-guided face generation: given a low-res face input image, an attribute vector that can be extracted from a high-res image (attribute image), our new method generates a high-res face image for the low-res input that ...

Giving Up

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Philosophical accounts of long‐term goals focus predominantly on the rationality of perseverance, examining when agents should persist despite evidence of failure. Arguably, these accounts consider that giving up is devoid of value. Conversely, this article argues that giving up has a different epistemic function: generating information about ...

Leveraging Mid-Level Deep Representations For Predicting Face Attributes in the Wild

open access: yes, 2016
Predicting facial attributes from faces in the wild is very challenging due to pose and lighting variations in the real world. The key to this problem is to build proper feature representations to cope with these unfavourable conditions.

The mediating role of shame in the relationship between adolescent hairpulling and co‐occurring anxiety and depressive symptomology

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
This study found that shame is a significant mediator in positive associations between hairpulling severity and depression and anxiety severity within a community sample of adolescents with clinical levels of hair‐pulling severity. It also found high levels of trance‐pulling and post‐pulling rituals.
