Abstract Ingrown eyelashes are an interesting finding closely related to ingrown hairs of the body. This phenomenon is fairly uncommon and is sparsely referred to in the ophthalmic literature. The condition can produce patient complaints, and therefore deserves optometric recognition.

In the past two years, I have seen four individuals with alopecia of the eyelashes. In only one of these cases did the alopecia involve any other area. Inasmuch as alopecia limited to the eyelashes must be uncommon, I thought it worth while to publish this report. Case 1.— A woman, age 21, a secretary, had never noticed any other hair loss.

Unilateral Poliosis of Eyelashes
Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2016A 68-year-old man presented with significant, asymptomatic, unilateral eyelash poliosis, not associated with any ophthalmic or systemic conditions. He reported that this started about 40 years ago with a few lashes in the central portion of his eyelid and that adjacent eyelashes subsequently became involved over the next 4 to 5 days.
