IRIS Segmentation: Detecting Pupil, Limbus and Eyelids
2006 International Conference on Image Processing, 2006This paper presents an active contour model to accurately detect pupil boundary in order to improve the performance of iris recognition systems. The contour model takes into consideration that an actual pupil boundary is a near-circular contour rather than a perfect circle.

Post-encephalitic segmental dystonia with apraxia of eyelid opening
Parkinsonism & Related Disorders, 2004We describe a 34 year old woman presenting with a 25 year history of segmental dystonia with apraxia of eyelid opening, orofacial and focal upper limb dystonia following an episode of meningoencephalitis. Post-encephalitic apraxia of eyelid opening has not been previously reported in the absence of parkinsonian features.

Effects of XeCl Excimer Laser on the Eyelid and Anterior Segment Structures
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1986We evaluated the in vitro and in vivo effects of an XeCl excimer laser on the eyelid and anterior segments of the eye. The wavelength of this laser was successfully transmitted through a quartz fiberoptic system. The action of the XeCl excimer laser through our system was more photocoagulative than photoablative.

Platinum segments: a new platinum chain for adjustable upper eyelid loading
British Journal of Ophthalmology, 2015Prospective study evaluating outcomes of individually sutured platinum segment chains in upper eyelid loading.Single-centre, single-surgeon, prospective study. Upper eyelid loading with 0.4 and 0.2 g platinum segment chains for lagophthalmos. Segments were sutured to create a desired weight and attached to superior tarsus and distal levator aponeurosis

500,000 Images Closer to Eyelid and Pupil Segmentation
2019Human gaze behavior is not the only important aspect about eye tracking. The eyelids reveal additional important information; such as fatigue as well as the pupil size holds indications of the workload. The current state-of-the-art datasets focus on challenges in pupil center detection, whereas other aspects, such as the lid closure and pupil size, are

This article reports the outcomes of a 5-year series of individually sutured platinum segment chains for upper eyelid loading.Consecutive case series.Platinum segments of 0.4 and 0.2 g were assembled to create the desired weight and were placed in a supratarsal location after levator aponeurosis recession.

Does lagophthalmos change on lying supine after upper eyelid platinum segment chain loading?
Orbit, 2020Facial nerve palsy (FNP) often significantly affects blink. Platinum segment chains (PSC) improve lagophthalmos, however, debate exists as to the effectiveness of weights when the patient lies supine.Prospective case series of patients with FNP following PSC insertion.

Structured Forest Edge Detectors for Improved Eyelid and Iris Segmentation
2015 International Conference of the Biometrics Special Interest Group (BIOSIG), 2015Edge detection has long figured into iris segmentation algorithms, often providing a first-pass estimate of the inner and outer iris boundaries. Standard edge detectors, however, generally produce too many extraneous edges inside and outside the iris to be used for simple ellipse fitting to robustly find the iris boundaries.

Though a needleless jet injection device (NJI device) has advantages over a conventional needle attached syringe for injecting anesthetics, safety of using it for lid surgery is not proved. We report a case of posterior segment injury suspected caused by a NJI device.A 47-year-old woman presented with decreased visual acuity after regional anesthesia ...

Internal Vertical Eyelid Shortening to Treat Surgically Induced Segmental Blepharoptosis
American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1976In a procedure to relieve segmental blepharoptosis after surgery for thyroid eyelid retraction and carcinoma, I applied a clamp to the internal eyelid tissues over the blepharoptotic segment, and excised the tissues held in the clamp. The procedure was successful in four patients.
