Microwave‐Assisted Synthesis of Polyethylene Terephthalate as a Fast Screening Method for Catalyst Evaluation and for Evaluating Polymerizability of Monomers Recovered From Degraded Polyesters

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Microwave irradiation is demonstrated as a fast screening method for polymerization of crude monomers (TA and BHET) into PET and for rapid evaluation of condensation catalysts. ABSTRACT Microwave irradiation is demonstrated as a screening method for the polymerization of crude terephthalic acid (TA) and crude bis(2‐hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET ...

Assessing the Biodegradability of 2‐Methylene‐1,3‐Dioxepane (MDO)‐Based Multicomponent Polymers Under Aerobic Composting Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
This study evaluates the biodegradability of multicomponent polymers incorporating 2‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxepane (MDO) under aerobic composting conditions. Increasing the amount of MDO and the addition of carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals (cCNCs) enhanced biodegradation.

Biocompatibility of the Polymer Poly(Butylene Adipate‐Co‐Terephthalate) in the Cornea of Rabbits

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
The biocompatibility of the PBAT in the rabbit cornea was evaluated through clinical assessment and histopathological analysis using hematoxylin and eosin, picrosirius red, and Masson’s trichrome staining. ABSTRACT In a novel approach to corneal biomaterials, this study evaluated the biocompatibility of heat‐pressed poly(butylene adipate‐co ...

Performance of N‐Halamine‐Based Self‐Decontaminating Fabric Finish With UV Absorber Nanoparticles for Medical Gown and Military Uniforms

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Scanning electron microscopy images of fabric with the applied PSPH finish with ZnO nanoparticles and further chlorination. ABSTRACT Protective clothing can help protect wearers from biological hazards; however, contaminated personal protective equipment (PPE) can lead to widespread pathogen transmission.
