The MMT f/5 optical baffles

The 6.5m MMT telescope currently has three focal configurations. The f/5 optical configuration has a system of optical baffles to prevent stray light from entering the focal plane. We present the optical design, the error budget, the differential distortion budget and the baffle design of the Telescopio San Pedro Martir f/5 Nasmyth configuration. The TSPM in its Cassegrain configuration will be assembled around a closed design (converted MMT/Magellan telescope) with most of its optical parts already manufactured.

A 6-inch f/5 Telescope

1999
This project is typical of those suitable for someone who has a collection of leftovers from previous projects. Steven Lee raided his junk box to construct this very portable 6 in f/5 instrument for an additional outlay of about A$30. He has designed a slide focuser in order to minimise the secondary obstruction.

Xenon(II) chlorine compounds can be obtained as the isolable organo derivatives C(6)F(5)XeCl and [(C(6)F(5)Xe)(2)Cl][AsF(6)] (whose cation is depicted) in 85 and 91 % yield, respectively.
