Angle Dependent Van Hove Singularities in Slightly Twisted Graphene Bilayer

open access: yes, 2012
Recent studies show that two low-energy Van Hove singularities (VHSs) seen as two pronounced peaks in the density of states (DOS) could be induced in twisted graphene bilayer.

Coarse abstractions make Zeno behaviours difficult to detect [PDF]

open access: yesLogical Methods in Computer Science, 2013
An infinite run of a timed automaton is Zeno if it spans only a finite amount of time. Such runs are considered unfeasible and hence it is important to detect them, or dually, find runs that are non-Zeno.

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

CCS with Hennessy's merge has no finite-equational axiomatization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
This paper confirms a conjecture of Bergstra and Klop¿s from 1984 by establishing that the process algebra obtained by adding an auxiliary operator proposed by Hennessy in 1981 to the recursion free fragment of Milner¿s Calculus of Communicationg Systems

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Quantum state transfer in imperfect artificial spin networks

open access: yes, 2004
High-fidelity quantum computation and quantum state transfer are possible in short spin chains. We exploit a system based on a dispersive qubit-boson interaction to mimic XY coupling.

Strong normalisation for applied lambda calculi [PDF]

open access: yesLogical Methods in Computer Science, 2005
We consider the untyped lambda calculus with constructors and recursively defined constants. We construct a domain-theoretic model such that any term not denoting bottom is strongly normalising provided all its `stratified approximations' are.

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

CONTRALATERAL SUPPRESSION OF DISTORTION PRODUCT OTOACOUSTIC EMISSIONS IN CHILDREN WITH AND WITHOUT AUDITORY PROCESSING DISORDERS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This manuscript provides data on contralateral suppression of distortion product otoacoustic emissions in normal hearing children and children with Auditory Processing Disorders. Listeners included children 8 to 13 years-old.

Effects of Molecular Crowding on stretching of polymers in poor solvent

open access: yes, 2009
We consider a linear polymer chain in a disordered environment modeled by percolation clusters on a square lattice. The disordered environment is meant to roughly represent molecular crowding as seen in cells.
