An X-ray spectral survey of the disc of M31 with XMM-Newton [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present the results of a complete spectral survey of the X-ray point sources detected in five XMM-Newton observations along the major axis of M31 but avoiding the central bulge, aimed at establishing the population characteristics of X-ray sources in ...

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

A spectrograph instrument concept for the Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) on Subaru Telescope

open access: yes, 2012
We describe the conceptual design of the spectrograph opto-mechanical concept for the SuMIRe Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS) being developed for the SUBARU telescope.

MET and NF2 alterations confer primary and early resistance to first‐line alectinib treatment in ALK‐positive non‐small‐cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Alectinib resistance in ALK+ NSCLC depends on treatment sequence and EML4‐ALK variants. Variant 1 exhibited off‐target resistance after first‐line treatment, while variant 3 and later lines favored on‐target mutations. Early resistance involved off‐target alterations, like MET and NF2, while on‐target mutations emerged with prolonged therapy.

A Rational Deconstruction of Landin's SECD Machine with the J Operator [PDF]

open access: yesLogical Methods in Computer Science, 2008
Landin's SECD machine was the first abstract machine for applicative expressions, i.e., functional programs. Landin's J operator was the first control operator for functional languages, and was specified by an extension of the SECD machine.

On Cayley graphs of algebraic structures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
We present simple graph-theoretic characterizations of Cayley graphs for left-cancellative monoids, groups, left-quasigroups and quasigroups. We show that these characterizations are effective for the end-regular graphs of finite degree.

Enhanced discovery of bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase through computer simulation and metagenomic analysis of industrial wastewater

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We obtained potential bacterial laccase‐like multicopper oxidase (LMCO) sequences through metagenomic sequencing. All sequences exhibited significant differences from known LMCOs in databases. To select the most promising candidates, we performed structure prediction and molecular docking using alphafold2, metal3d and rosetta.

NICMOS Observations of Luminous and Ultraluminous Infrared Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
HST NICMOS observations of a sample of 24 luminous (LIGs: L_(IR) [8-1000 microns] = 10^(11.0-11.99) L_sun) and ultraluminous (ULIGs: L_(IR) > 10^(12.0) L_sun) infrared galaxies are presented.

Model Checking Vector Addition Systems with one zero-test [PDF]

open access: yesLogical Methods in Computer Science, 2012
We design a variation of the Karp-Miller algorithm to compute, in a forward manner, a finite representation of the cover (i.e., the downward closure of the reachability set) of a vector addition system with one zero-test.

Weak Lensing Probes of Modified Gravity

open access: yes, 2008
We study the effect of modifications to General Relativity on large scale weak lensing observables. In particular, we consider three modified gravity scenarios: f(R) gravity, the DGP model, and TeVeS theory.
