Abstract Phase One of the Transportation and Transformation of Ammonia (TRANS2Am) field campaign took place in northeastern Colorado during the summer of 2021. One of the goals of TRANS2Am was to measure ammonia (NH3) emissions from cattle feedlots and dairies.

Quantification of marine benthic communities with metabarcoding
Abstract DNA metabarcoding methods have been implemented in studies aimed at detecting and quantifying marine benthic biodiversity. In such surveys, universal barcodes are amplified and sequenced from environmental DNA. To quantify biodiversity with DNA metabarcoding, a relation between the number of DNA sequences of a species and its biomass and/or ...

Soil nutrient distribution on cattle farms in three physiographic regions of North Carolina
Abstract Beef cattle production systems are sometimes considered a source of nutrient enrichment due to alteration of botanical composition and excretion of nutrients in isolated zones of pastures. However, research on environmental effects from livestock grazing in the eastern United States has been scant.

The source‐sink model of population dynamics predicts that density drives emigration of subordinate animals to habitats offering lower competition for resources. Several authors have suggested use of this model as a potential framework for conservation of exploited carnivores when precise enumeration is unfeasible.

Abstract During recent decades, rough livestock grazing has decreased markedly on unimproved land (i.e. natural and semi‐natural habitats) across most of Europe, whilst the number of wild cervids has increased. However, we still know little about the overall changes in the herbivore pressure and how herbivore regimes vary between biogeographic regions.

Abstract Muskrats Ondatra zibethicus are considered a pest species in the Netherlands, and a year‐round control programme is in effect. Currently, the agency responsible for the management of muskrat populations in the Netherlands (the LCCM) is preparing for field studies to compare alternative strategies of control.

Abstract Knowledge of movements, range size and spatial overlap of sympatric deer is integral to understanding chronic wasting disease (CWD) in endemic areas and can assist resource managers in modeling the spread of the disease. We radio‐collared 70 deer (30 mule deer Odocoileus hemionus and 40 white‐tailed deer O.

Moose Alces alces habitat use at multiple temporal scales in a human‐altered landscape
Abstract Habitat alteration by humans may change the supply of food and cover for wild ungulates, but few studies have examined how these resources are utilised over time by individuals of different sex and reproductive status. We examined circadian and seasonal variation in habitat utilisation within a moose Alces alces population in central Norway ...

Abstract Abundance indices suggested that the moose Alces alces population in northern New Hampshire was stable despite favourable habitat and conservative harvest. Causes and rates of mortality were unknown because moose reproduction and survival was unstudied in the region. Our study was designed to investigate the dynamics of the regional population
