High diversity of Phytophthora species in natural ecosystems and nurseries of Portugal: Detrimental side effect of plant introductions from the age of discovery to modern globalization

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 74, Issue 2, Page 330-362, February 2025.
High diversity of known and new, mostly exotic Phytophthora species in forests, nurseries and streams across Portugal and numerous associated forest tree declines are a consequence of long‐term plant introductions and outplantings. Abstract Between 2010 and 2015, an extensive survey of Phytophthora diversity was performed across Portugal.

Optical Surface Roughness Estimation Using Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, Volume 76, Issue 1, Page 188-196, January 2025.
An artificial intelligence (AI) model has been developed using a data set recorded by a laser triangulation scanner and a digital camera. This model is capable of identifying whether blasted steel surfaces are good or bad, and it can also estimate the roughness of these surfaces in the form of the Rz parameter, based on images alone.

Energetically Consistent Eddy‐Diffusivity Mass‐Flux Convective Schemes: 1. Theory and Models

open access: yesJournal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract This paper presents a self‐contained derivation, from first principles, of a convective vertical mixing scheme based on the Eddy‐Diffusivity Mass‐Flux (EDMF) approach. This type of closure separates vertical turbulent fluxes into two components: an eddy‐diffusivity (ED) which accounts for local small‐scale mixing in a nearly isotropic ...

The Abnormal Diagnosis Method for Process Parameter Fluctuation Based on Power Spectral Density and Statistical Characteristics

open access: yesIET Signal Processing, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
In processes of refining and chemical productions, alarm systems are generally centralized alarm management systems for process parameters. However, in order to address the challenges of advanced manipulation and maintenance during emergencies, there has been limited research on timely alarming for individual critical process parameters.

Classification of intrusion cyber‐attacks in smart power grids using deep ensemble learning with metaheuristic‐based optimization

open access: yesExpert Systems, Volume 42, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract The most advanced power grid design, known as a ‘smart power grid’, integrates information and communication technology (ICT) with a conventional grid system to enable remote management of electricity distribution. The intelligent cyber‐physical architecture enables bidirectional, real‐time data sharing between electricity suppliers and ...

cDNA and deduced primary structure of basic phospholipase A2 with neurotoxic activity from the venom secretion of the Crotalus durissus collilineatus rattlesnake

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2010
To illustrate the construction of precursor complementary DNAs, we isolated mRNAs from whole venom samples. After reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), we amplified the cDNA coding for a neurotoxic protein, phospholipase A2 D49 (PLA2 ...
