A Novel Approach to Produce Metal–Metal Composites by Leveraging Immiscibility: Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Nanosilver‐Dispersed Titanium

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Incorporating nanosized silver into titanium for antimicrobial materials exploits the metastable miscibility gap between silver and titanium. Silver nanoparticles are synthesized via pulsed laser ablation in liquid. Silver addition refines the microstructure, increases hardness by 30%, and reduces Staphylococcus capitis microbial adhesion by 70%, with ...

Soft-mask fabrication of gallium arsenide nanomembranes for integrated quantum photonics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We report on the fabrication of quantum photonic integrated circuits based on suspended GaAs membranes. The fabrication process consists of a single lithographic step followed by inductively-coupled-plasma dry etching through an electron-beam-resist mask and wet etching of a sacrificial layer.

Maillard Type Reaction for Electroless Copper Plating onto Ceramic Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents the manufacturing of copper‐plated ceramic nanoparticles in an environmentally friendly way. Supported by organic functionalizations with pectin an electroless plating step can be performed. Sustainable reagents like xylose, and several amino acids are used for the reduction process.

A Stereolithographically Fabricated Polymethacrylate Broadband THz Absorber [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Additive manufactured THz optics have been introduced as an efficient alternative to their commercial counterparts. Among various additive manufacturing methods, stereolithography provides superior spatial resolution and surface finish. However, examples of stereolithographically fabricated components for THz applications are still scarce.

On Fabric Gloss

open access: yesSen'i Kikai Gakkaishi (Journal of the Textile Machinery Society of Japan), 1972
Luminance distribution curves were plotted, as a light source, using a group of small bulbs set at certain distances in a hemisphere-built acryl resin plate and a parallel luminous flux from the collimeter, thereby the gloss of fabric was examined.

Ontologies for FAIR Data in Additive Manufacturing: A Use Case‐Based Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ontology‐based approach for generating findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable data in additive manufacturing is explored, focusing on powder bed fusion. The article highlights the benefits of enhanced data findability and digital twin enablement, while addressing challenges like data integration complexity and the need for specialized ...
