Spin transport in ferromagnet-InSb nanowire quantum devices
Signatures of Majorana zero modes (MZMs), which are the building blocks for fault-tolerant topological quantum computing, have been observed in semiconductor nanowires (NW) with strong spin-orbital-interaction (SOI), such as InSb and InAs NWs with ...

Highly sensitive fiber Bragg grating refractive index sensors [PDF]
We combine fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technology with a wet chemical etch-erosion procedure and demonstrate two types of refractive index sensors using single-mode optical fibers. The first index sensor device is an etch-eroded single FBG with a radius of

Pulsed laser linewidth measurement using Fabry–Pérot scanning interferometer
We apply the Fabry–Pérot (FP) scanning interferometer, which is normally used for continuous wave (CW) laser linewidth measurement, for the measurement of pulsed laser linewidths.

Accelerated High-Resolution Photoacoustic Tomography via Compressed Sensing [PDF]
Current 3D photoacoustic tomography (PAT) systems offer either high image quality or high frame rates but are not able to deliver high spatial and temporal resolution simultaneously, which limits their ability to image dynamic processes in living tissue.

Optical fiber sensors: a route from University of Kent to Portugal [PDF]
In this work the authors first summarily describe the main topics that were the subject of their post-graduate activity in fiber sensing at the Applied Optics Group of University of Kent in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Chiral Acoustic Phonon and Conservation of Pseudoangular Momentum in α‐Quartz
Chiral acoustic phonons in α‐quartz are probed via Brillouin light scattering, exploiting the photon's helicity and the crystal's handedness. The interaction obeys a selection rule arising from pseudoangular momentum conservation, enabling direct optical access to phonon chirality in nonsymmorphic crystals.

Development of a new two color far infrared laser interferometer for future fusion devices [PDF]
A new two color far infrared (FIR) laser interferometer under development for future fusion devices will be presented. The laser wavelength is optimized from the consideration of the beam refraction effect due to plasma density gradient and signal-to ...
