Candidates for a possible third-generation gravitational wave detector: comparison of ring-Sagnac and sloshing-Sagnac speedmeter interferometers [PDF]
Speedmeters are known to be quantum non-demolition devices and, by potentially providing sensitivity beyond the standard quantum limit, become interesting for third generation gravitational wave detectors.

Micromachined Double‐Membrane Mechanically Tunable Metamaterial for Thermal Infrared Filtering
Herein, a mechanically tunable double‐layer plasmonic metamaterial leveraging the extraordinary optical transmission effect observed in subwavelength arrays of openings within thin metal layers is presented. The concept is experimentally validated by integrating the proposed metamaterial structure into an electrostatic parallel‐plate actuator to create

Nano silica diaphragm in-fiber cavity for gas pressure measurement
We demonstrate an ultrahigh-sensitivity gas pressure sensor based on the Fabry-Perot interferometer employing a fiber-tip diaphragm-sealed cavity. The cavity is comprised of a silica capillary and ultrathin silica diaphragm with a thickness of 170 nm ...

Nanosecond channel-switching exact optical frequency synthesizer using an optical injection phase-locked loop (OIPLL) [PDF]
Experimental results are reported on an optical frequency synthesizer for use in dynamic dense wavelength-division-multiplexing networks, based on a tuneable laser in an optical injection phase-locked loop for rapid wavelength locking.

It is currently not well understood how cells regulate basic properties, e.g., volume and mechanics within dense multicellular environments like tumors. Here, we show that different cell types of cancer and also normal cells largely decrease their nuclear and cellular volumes in emerging cell clusters and that this is partly driven by cell cycle shifts.

Fiber-Optic Microstructure Sensors: A Review
This paper reviews a wide variety of fiber-optic microstructure (FOM) sensors, such as fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors, long-period fiber grating (LPFG) sensors, Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) sensors, Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) sensors ...

rf-electrometer using a carbon nanotube resonant tunneling transistor [PDF]
We have studied resonant tunneling transistors (RTT) made of single-walled carbon nanotube quantum dots in the Fabry–Pérot regime. We show sensitivity to input charge as high as 5×10 exp −6 e/Hz1/2 with a carrier frequency of 719 MHz at 4.2 K.
