Measuring the speed of light using beating longitudinal modes in an open-cavity HeNe laser
We describe an undergraduate laboratory that combines an accurate measurement of the speed of light, a fundamental investigation of a basic laser system, and a nontrivial use of statistical analysis.

Stationary entanglement between two movable mirrors in a classically driven Fabry-Perot cavity [PDF]
We consider a Fabry-Perot cavity made by two moving mirrors and driven by an intense classical laser field. We show that stationary entanglement between two vibrational modes of the mirrors, with effective mass of the order of micrograms, can be ...

Positive pulse switching in coupled nonlinear Fabry-Perot cavities [PDF]
Conventional bistable Fabry-Perot cavities are switched off by interrupting a bias. This is dissipative and thus, in principle, is not conducive of high speed. Positive-pulse switching has been demonstrated in systems in which two different mechanisms were responsible for the up and down switching and also in devices using a transient phenomenon.

Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

A field theoretical framework for the recently proposed photon condensation effect in a nonlinear Fabry-Perot cavity is discussed. The dynamics of the photon gas turns out to be described by an effective 2D Hamiltonian of a complex massive scalar field ...

A MEMS‐integrated metamaterial filter enables continuous, low‐voltage spectral tuning in the long‐wavelength infrared (LWIR). The device employs extraordinary optical transmission in a dual suspended metasurface stack, where electrostatic actuation precisely controls the intermembrane air gap.

Femtosecond Laser Introduced Cantilever Beam on Optical Fiber for Vibration Sensing
An all-fiber vibration sensor based on the Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) is proposed and experimentally evaluated in this study. The sensor is fabricated by introducing a Fabry-Perot cavity to the single-mode fiber using femtosecond laser ablation ...

Dynamic modal analysis of monolithic mode-locked semiconductor lasers [PDF]
We analyze the advantages and applicability limits of the mode-coupling approach to active, passive, hybrid, and harmonic mode-locking in diode lasers. A simple, computationally efficient numerical model is proposed and applied to several traditional and

Diffused-quantum-well vertical cavity Fabry-Perot reflection modulator [PDF]
This is a first report to use diffused quantum well (DFQW) as the active cavity of the Fabry-Perot reflection modulator. Apart from the simple fabrication process of the DFQW, this material system provides a wavelength tuning range and improves the modulation properties of the device which thus is competitive with the same kind of modulator.
