Investigation of the Topography of Face Milled Surfaces
Materials Science Forum, 2018Effects of the changing of cutting on the two-and three-dimensional roughness parameters of surfaces machined by face milling are investigated in the paper. The focus is on how the changing of the ratio of the feed and depth of cut affects the generated surface topography and its parameters in the case of constant undeformed uncut chip cross-section ...

Designing an Innovative Face-Milling Cutter
Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013The paper consists in a research in the design of an innovative face-milling cutter, in terms of product lifecycle management (PLM), with the help from creative design methods, such as TRIZ. The model of the lifecycle management of the cutting tools was presented, emphasizing the functional analysis and creative design phase.

Predicting cutting forces in face milling
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1994Abstract It is shown how orthogonal machining theory can be applied to predict the cutting forces in face milling from a knowledge of the work material properties and cutting conditions. Predicted and experimental results are compared.

Influence of Steel Hardness in Face-Milling
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1949Abstract Face-milling tests are reported on seven different kinds of steels for power consumption and tool life at hardnesses of approximately 200, 300, and 400 Bhn. At any given hardness power requirements varied but little, but differences in tool life were considerably greater.

Analysis of Machining Error in Face Milling
1982A face milling machine is used to make a wide plane accurately, however, it is usually difficult to obtain a good plane because of the presence of stair between neighbouring cutter passes and of the tendency of concavity even in one cutter pass. The study aims at evaluating such machining errors in face milling.

Face milling of stell with octagonal insert

Surface Finish of Steel in Face-Milling
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 1947Abstract Exhaustive tests have shown that the radial rake angle has relatively little effect upon surface finish of the workpiece in face-milling operations. Cutting speed and feed per tooth determine the surface finish, i.e., the higher the speed and finer the feed, the better the surface becomes. However, if this is carried to extremes

Tool wear monitoring in face milling
2010The purpose of this thesis is to investigate tool wear monitoring using Fourier Series simulation of steady state cutting forces. These simulations show that mean and fundamental values are all that is required to accurately predict immersion and tool wear (high frequency terms are ignored).
