Validated Assessment Scales for the Lower Face
Dermatologic Surgery, 2012Aging in the lower face leads to lines, wrinkles, depression of the corners of the mouth, and changes in lip volume and lip shape, with increased sagging of the skin of the jawline. Refined, easy-to-use, validated, objective standards assessing the severity of these changes are required in clinical research and practice. To establish the reliability of ...

Journal of Educational Measurement, 1985
The literature of the concept of face validity is surveyed. A definition of face validity involving four facets is proposed. Empirical data suggesting that face validity is a characteristic of tests that can be validly and reliably measured are presented. Implications for research and for practical use are discussed.

Validated Assessment Scales for the Upper Face
Dermatologic Surgery, 2012Age-related upper face changes such as wrinkles, lines, volume loss, and anatomic alterations may affect quality of life and psychological well-being. The development of globally accepted tools to assess these changes objectively is an essential contribution to aesthetic research and routine clinical medicine. To establish the reliability of several ...

Face and Ecological Validity in Simulations
Proceedings of the 2019 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2019In fields where in situ performance cannot be measured, ecological validity is difficult to estimate. Drawing on theory from social psychology and virtual reality, we argue that face validity can be a useful proxy for ecological validity. We provide illustrative examples of this relationship from work in search-and-rescue HRI, and conclude with some ...

“Face validity” is not a legitimate type of validity evidence!
The American Journal of Surgery, 2016The American Journal of Surgery (AJS) is a long-standing leader among surgery publications and has published high-quality research dating back to 1926. To preserve AJS's reputation, it is necessary to identify issues that may affect the journal, and subsequently the broader field of surgery, in a negative way, and attempt to resolve those issues.

Quality and Quantity, 1979
The concept of “face validity”, used in the sense of the contrast between “face validity” and “construct validity”, is conventionally understood in a way which is wrong and misleading. The wrong view had relatively limited consequences for research practice per se.

Face recognition, pose and ecological validity
Applied Cognitive Psychology, 1987AbstractThis paper describes five experiments with two main aims; first, to assess the effects of variations in photographic facial pose on recognizability. A second, more fundamental aim was to examine the reliability of laboratory findings relevant to face recognition, in more ecologically valid settings, and to develop a methodology to further this ...
